I'm not particularly fluent in toyota.

He has a 1993 Toyota Truck - it's the 4 cylinder 4wd, manual. The mechanic said he has 4:11 gears.

I'm looking for gear sets online and I'm seeing

https://nitro-gear.com/nitro-gear-axle-7-5-standard-rotation-4-11-ring-pinion-for-toyota-1979-2004.html

Would these gears work for the REAR axle for a '93 toyota pickup?

What can I cross shop in the junkyards to get him back on the road?

This is the note he sent me from the mechanic:

Thanks!

The application list you posted does not show to fit rear of 4wd pickup.

The rear differential of that truck catalogs to be an 8 inch. The 7.5 you're referencing is for the front differential of 4wd trucks. When you go down the rabbit hole of rear differential gearsets for 93 4x4 truck, you get plenty of options for replacement gearsets in his ratio.

Randys Ring an Pinion is where I have ordered from with good luck and their website takes you by the hand and leads you through the parts lookup and ordering process pretty well.

Yeah, I couldn't tell if I was supposed to read between the lines or what - so far as I can tell the rear of his year should be a 7.5" R&P - but just not that one?

I edited my post above to include more (hopefully) helpful info.

These guys are the grandaddy of Toyota drivetrain stuff. Their site also confirms you're seeking 8 inch parts not 7.5. Their ring and pinion sets are priced very nicely too.

x2 on Marlin. Plus . . .

Is there a tag on the rear or a plate on the body indicating which rear the truck came with?

It's not in my possession right now, hence trying to debug it by telepathy ( don't you guys love when family calls you with car problems!)

I was trying to get him some options, but it sounds like he's just going to go with the mechanic - thanks for all the help guys!

Those trucks use a complete drop out center section arrangement so doing a swap is quite straightforward. Marlin will sell you an entire bolt in center section with fresh gears and bearings all set up perfect. Takes all of the gear setup challenge out of the repair. Just remove and replace, refill with oil. Enjoy.

They also offer them with a wide variety of lockers if the guy wants hat option.

I've bought 2 complete assembled 3rd Members for my 91 Toyota pickup offroad truck from ECGS (east coast gear supply)

They've been abused in the truck for the last 5 years, and I've had zero issues

8" 5.29 E locker for the rear and a 7.5" 5.29 with a Lockrite for the front

Not sure on the cost difference for parts vs buying an assembled one from them with a 5 year warranty, but when I priced local vendors near me at the time, they were all higher than ECGS was, by a substantial margin.

One guy wanted more to re-gear the 7.5" front diff (and reusing the factory carrier) than ECGS wanted with all the upgraded stuff
