I'm late to the party but as others have said, it's nowhere near $9-10k, especially being an automatic. Very early cars (like the '79 Knurled mentioned) and later GSL-SE cars aren't there yet either, but they are getting there. Recently, an '80 in Inca Gold sold for around $6k near me. As for the car in question, a very clean example (with a check of the inner rear fenderwells for rust from inside the car) GS with a manual can fetch $5k, with the auto it's probably in the $3500 range. If there's inner fenderwell rust, you're looking at a $1500-2000 car.
Of course this all depends on the buyer. An enthusiast will likely pass because of the auto trans and the sea of cheap manual cars out there. Most non-enthusiasts will pass because of the rotary engine. The right person, who isn't afraid of the rotary but doesn't want a manual, and sure, you can get $5k.
Wanted to add that I paid $800 for my '80, non-running but almost rust free and manual, about a decade ago. There's another one local to me, a '79 non-running but almost rust free and manual, that the guy is trying to get $700 for today. Prices have been pretty steady for the last decade.
