Every "interesting" car I've ever owned has appreciated - sometimes significantly so. Roughly in order: 1964 Ranchero. 1974 Capri, 1968 Datsun 1600 Roadster, 1990 Toyota SR5 V6 4WD pickup, 1990 RX-7, 3 Miatas, 2 e30s, 1 Stalker kit-car, 1 1968 Fiat Spyder. I'm sure that some of you have bigger and better lists.
There once was a time (2001) that I owned a '97 240sx, '88MR2 SC, '90 Miata at the same time.

I've only owned "interesting" cars. Even my appliances. If only their appreciation kept up with their maintenance costs...
In reply to buzzboy :
That's why guys end up filling warehouses with cars that are good deals to buy, not necessarily to restore and upkeep.

I hear ya, but I simply don't have the space or had the money to keep them. Things like 944 turbo S, 2 E36 M3's, 1 E46 M3, 2 B5 S4 avants, 1 Nogaro B6 S4 Avant, 1 white ultrasport B6 A4 avant, Cobalt Blue real 6MT stage 3 audi allroad, black/tan leather Corrado VR6, Mk2 2l 16v GTi, etc....

I had an utterly mint condition 78 VW Westfaila Camper van. As a young airman in the air force I struggled to come up with the $2000 to buy it when I found it but I did. And a few years later I was happy to double my money when I sold it. Today it would be worth about 20k....sigh. I should learn to hold on to things.
I sold a running driving 71 240x for $700.
I wrecked my FD RX 7. So, not a regret of selling (though I did buy back the salvage and sell that, regrettably) but I definitely regret wadding it up.
I remember reading Denise McCluggage's column in the old paper AutoWeek, talking about the iconic race and GT cars of the 50s and 60s that she'd owned. Inevitably someone would say "if you kept them all you'd be rich."
"If I didn't sell one I'd never have been able to buy another"
The only thing that makes me happier than buying a car is selling a car.

I guess I follow this advice. In 26 years of vehicle ownership, I've yet to sell a car. I have... disposed of them? I scrapped a '91 Miata with 275,000 miles after the wife crashed it in such a way that every body panel was destroyed. I burned an '84 Toyota FJ60 to the ground (it probably appreciated $10k while I owned it). I had a 2013 WRX get totaled while parked, maybe I technically sold that one to the insurance company? I keep doing things like keeping maintenance records "for the next owner", but if I never sell a car what's the point? I do genuinely want to sell the wife's Focus RS and replace it with a GR Corolla, but since I refuse to pay ADM, it may never happen...
