I have a line on a 2006 Prius, and supposedly has a discharged ICE battery and a non working (corroded"??) fob. The big issue is that I have to get it out of a parking garage, and the car is nosed into a spot with the steering turned to the left full lock.
Is it possible to get this thing to roll and steer? My plan is to get it on a dolly to bring it home so that I can try to get it running. Anything else I should be aware of?
The key fob calls for a 2032 Battery. A very popular size available at any store that sells AA batteries. Changing it requires a small #00 screw driver. Video of fob replacement
You do not have to change the fob battery, it should still work by inserting the fob into the slot on the dashboard (near where you would expect a key to go.)
The 12v battery is in the trunk but the trunk latch is power operated. Therefore, if you have no power you have no easy access to the battery, ha.
Under the hood, driver's side, is a fuse box. Remove the fuse box lid and you will find a jumper point. The jumper bolt is sort of recessed. My big cables have trouble clamping onto it. My secret is to bring a 10mm socket. Clamp onto the 10mm socket and then put the 10mm socket onto the jumper nut.
There's a metal tab just above the bolt where you're supposed to clip the jumper cable.
If you do get the car to start, the dashboard light that says "ready" will light up. Once you have power, I recommend turning the heat on high. The heat is made off engine coolant so this will then cause the engine to kick on and force the engine to stay running.
I have had this experience too.... The jump off the front jumper point might not be strong enough to get the car going, but the jump point might be enough to provide power to the electric trunk latch. So, hook up iin the front just enough to open the hatch. Once in the hatch you can directly hook directly the the 12v battery which is deep on the trunk floor, passenger side. You need to remove the large, under floor storage bin in order to access the battery. From there it is just normal battery jumping. Nothing special.
If you can not get the hatch open and you can not get cables to the front of the car then there is a special latch to open the trunk from inside.
The hidden latch release is behind this back rectangular plastic.
That red is the protective cover over the positive battery terminal.

It is Group 51 battery. Popular replacements are Optima (which I have) or AC Delco, or dealership Toyota.
When I bought my Optima through Amazon it was a lot cheaper. If I needed one today I would probably go with the AC Delco.
The problem isn't a bad battery. The fob is damaged ("corroded", according to the seller, presumably from the battery) I've replaced the fob batteries on my wife's Prius before.
I'm assuming the fob is f-ed. To the point where it won't start the car, fresh battery or not. I want to know how to get the steering unlocked and get the car up on a dolly.
The battery in the fob makes the long range functions work, like the ability to unlock from 20ft away or the ability to start the car while the fob is still in your pocket. If that battery is dead, or the Prius does not have that optional feature of a smart key, then you must insert the fob into the dashboard. There is an RF-ID chip in the fob. That is what acts as the key.
See the 6 minute mark of this crappy video and that little chip is the "key" the car requires.

Like I said, I have dealt with dead fob batteries before. From what I can tell, this one does not start the car actively, nor does it start the car passively. If it will move the conversation forward, let's just assume that the fob doesn't even exist in this dimension.
I need to know how to get the car to roll and steer without traveling to the dimension the fob exists in.
My plan at this point is to get the front of the car onto a pallet jack to get it out of the parking garage, and then take disconnect the steering column from the rack so that I can get it to steer.
But I was hoping that there might have been a workaround.

Ahhh, this is then akin to you have no key. I have not had that same experience.

Do you have AAA?
If it were me, I would make sure the car has a set of unexpired plates on it (from some car) and have the tow truck drop it off at the dealership for a new key reprogram. The AAA truck would probably put the "skates" on the front wheels to pull it back far enough then lift the front wheels off the ground to tow it.
