Well not with the critters but what they did. After all these years it finally happened to me. I have a 2 car attached garage that I store two cars in during the winter months here in Michigan. I clean them up, change the oil etc. and put them away with covers on them. Every one to two weeks I check on them, make sure nothing is amiss and usually start them and let them warm up. This past time, a squirrel had chewed through a soffit and got in the garage. Got in the engine bay of the 08 Miata, chewed up the under hood sound deadener material and made a nest under the brake fluid reservoir out of it. It chewed through two wires coming off the front of the reservoir, I think mostly because they restricted it's access in and out. They plug into a jack on the side. Anyway, what are those? The car still starts and runs, I am getting no codes, everything still functions. It looks like they are possibly to warn of low brake fluid level? There is enough wire there to splice and shrink wrap, will that be OK to do? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I do not see any other damage anywhere.

On the squirrel side..........this thing was clever. Really clever. It would have had to hang upside under the gutter to chew through the soffit. It had made a storage of pine cones in the engine bay stacked like cannon balls. Larger on the bottom, smaller on top almost like a pyramid. It took me three days to catch the little bastard..........it could get in the trap, get the treat and get out with out being caught while tripping the door shut. Finally I used some really sticky peanut butter face down so it was almost like glue. Got it!! I relocated it to a park about 10 miles away.

In closing, now both cars have moth balls everywhere and rags soaked in squirrel/rodent repellant. When I open the garage door it's like visiting my Grandmother. Hope I am not smelling that all summer now. So take my advice, I never thought it would happen to me either in a sealed garage. Protect your vehicles!!

Dude, that sucks.

But yeah, those wires should be the "low brake fluid" warning sensor. I wouldn't think that if they were spliced together and taped up tight there would be any problems.

Actually, I think it's a normally open circuit. Splicing them together would give you a warning light. Easy enough to check.

FYI: 10 miles will not do it! I used to trap those bastards as a kid for an elderly guy down the road. we both swore it was the same darn squirrel so we spray painted its tail and sure as E36 M3 he made it back. 15 miles or more should do it, we did have a few that made it from 12 miles and across a busy air force base to get back in to his attic. Grab some bright orange paint and spray the tail next time.
