I had two nb miatas.  99 and  and ls 01.  I had great deep rim tires on the 99 that will not fit on the 01.  The rims hit the calipers.  Now I just went to swap some daisy rims on the ls and same thing.  Are the calipers that different from year to year, or did the Ls have something different.  Anyone in Maine, I am going to have a tire sale.  Sorry, I am at the office, so can't get pictures.   I was hoping to do some ice racing with these studded tires, but dang.

Yup.  Sounds like your '01 has Sport Brakes.

Most of the modern aftermarket wheels will fit with no problem, but backdated wheels, especially 14", will have issues.

It's not just the calipers. Measure the rotor diameter and I think you'll find the '01 rotors are bigger front and rear.

More accurately, it's the rotor diameter that's making the difference.  The calipers aren't any larger in exterior dimensions as far as I know. They're just further out.

And in case there was anybody who still doubted, a 2001 LS would have the larger diameter brakes.

It would be cheap and easy to just swap the caliper brackets and rotors for the standard 1.8 brake size.  The calipers themselves are exactly the same, you wouldn't even have to disconnect the brake lines.  This has the added benefit of way more available brake pads.  Unless you've added power the standard brake package stops the car just fine, even on the track.

Front calipers are different enough that you can't swap the brackets. Rear calipers have larger pistons but are the same externally.

Yes, the car does have added power.

I know you are the Miata Man, so sorry for a noob question like this:  How do I find out what rims fit on my 2001 LS miata?  I was holding these tires for ice racing this winter.  I just want to get some studded snows on the car, I do not care what they look like.  Is there a website that tells me what will fit?  Thanks!

Easiest thing to do is go to Tire Rack and tell them what car you have. Many 15" wheels will fit and almost any 16" or larger will be fine. For a few of them, you may have to swap out the banjo bolt on the caliper for a low profile one - you usually get them with stainless lines or you can buy them separately.

If you're looking at enthoooosiast sites, the brakes on your 2001 car are usually called "Sport" brakes.
