What did you do for your steering shaft, between the column and the rack? I tried to put the shaft in yesterday and it's too long, maybe an inch too long. I don't want to cut and weld the shaft because if I decide to remove the subframe spacers I'd need to get a new shaft. Did you lower your subframe?
I've never heard of any issues with the steering shaft on LS swaps, other than header clearance issues occasionally.

Yeah, me either. I don't know what this shaft came from, but it was not an 84 car. The subframe has been lowered, and the shaft is still long enough that if I bottom the splines on the rack end the rack still won't reach the subframe (sorry, no pics).
I know I could just cut and re-weld it, but I'm not a good welder, and I'd like it to telescope so I can possibly remove the spacers.
Do you use spacers? I don't want to, but don't know if I have a choice.
No issues on mine. I spaced the cross member down 1/2" for hood clearance, that's it.
Maybe that shaft is from a 924? Or perhaps a manual equipped 944?
I am betting it is form an 83 with manual rack car.
Look at the bottom of the page at the link below. I have measurements of stock 944/951 and 968 shafts.

Thanks Dean. I wonder if you already rebuild this one. It looks brand new! Anyway, thanks for the info.
