Our friends at the Martin Sports Car Club are hosting the autocross portion of the Challenge on Friday. They are also holding their Mini-Prix on Saturday on the nearby road course. Once you are done with your Challenge drag runs, you might want to wander over there!

Is the course simple to understand for the autocross impaired?

It is being held on the test course area, not the parking lot where the autox is held.

At least that is my understanding.

No, this is on the road course portion of the track grounds. It will be large, fast and easy to follow. You can take run with an instructor driving for free so you can know where the course goes. Per

Yes, there will be minimal use of cones so you're mostly just following the pavement. The few cones we do use will be for a slaloms and to keep people from going down the wrong paths.

Here is a video from the event a few years ago to give you an idea of what the course will be like:

And boy does that look like a fun little course to play on. I'm going to beg for seat time in our teams car after we get done with the drags.

Did you win the auto-x that year? We were kicked out of first by wobbling the first cone on the course (and by "we," I mean Mike King )

yep, he won it in his alfa and put my drum-braked V8Vair in 18th place out of 79 cars. my favorite quote from eric: "it would be about a second faster if it had better brakes."

2004, that was such a fun course. I got that Saturn up into 3rd gear on the long increasing radius sweeper on the back side of the track - and only ABS saved me from putting a wheel in the dirt after late braking for that 90 degree left on one of my runs. The autocross was by far our strongest event. Then again, our team was a bunch of Saturn autocrossers.

I will be running the event with the Martin Sports Car Club.

You all should come out and beat up on me for 1/6th of the price. I am going to put on the NT01s for this.

I tried that twice in the Alfa- didn't like it that much. So for my last two runs I stayed in 2nd. And hit our 8000rpm rev limit. Which I really didn't care much about- being the last event on the last day, if we grenaded our motor there, no great loss. I did have a faster run on my last one, but bobled in one of the last corners- which is SO much part of autocrossing...

I need to get around to making a big glass plate for the next entrant to take FTD driving their own car. Next year.

(and I almost drove Dave's mustang, but I didn't want to break it any more than it was- so I let him drive)

And one of my favorite pictures of all time is Angry's avatar. Well, that and the one that has been used in an ad in GRM.

Look closely in Angry's picture- that would be me, with an Alfa Romeo umbrella.

I REALLY REALLY loved that car, Angry. Thanks, again, 5 years later, for letting me drive it.
