Careful with the plugs, they work great, but I have had tire places not want to touch the tire once there is a plug in them...... delaminate from the insertion yada yada.

if the van has a roof rack, get one of those Yakima baskets, bolt it on, and stick the spare in there, off-roader style. Get a cheap tire cover off amazon to put on it to keep the UV off the rubber.

I’m too short to reach the roof of a Sienna so I was think on the hood like an old Land Rover.
My snow tires are markedly different size than my all seasons. Like 5% different. Wonder if that would be enough to make trouble for the AWD if I was using just one in an emergency

you cant reach it if you open the side door and stand on the cargo floor and/or the seat itself? That's how I get stuff on/off the Sequoia roof rack (I'm 6' tall, but that truck is quite a bit taller than that!). It's not like you have to do it often. I'm sure for the extremely occasional times you'd need to get the spare down, you could get up there somehow ;)
