Why exactly do the flotilla attack our corner of the internet anyway?
I mean.....just from titles I see it's nothing anyone would engage

I've actually been resisting the urge to talk to Tom about how to pull out a list of all the users with between X and N posts with join dates between Day1 and Day2... to then go through and check them for after-post spam edits.
Perhaps the devs could do you a notification when a user with fewer than X posts and/or joint date after Y edits a post more than Z days old?
Another thing I've noticed with canoe artists is they like to drag up old threads. Is there any way to block users that have under 100 posts from commenting on threads where the last post was over X days ago?
Another idea would be to not allow new users to create a thread until they have been a member for X days or made X posts.
Not sure how easy those changes would be to make or if it would discourage actual users from joining, just an idea to try to cut down on constant paddle attacks.

Not sure how current this explanation is, but I believe there's search ranking to be gained if your links are present on a site that gets traffic. When a search engine crawls GRM, it sees that this obviously legit site links back to spamgasm.biz and rates that site higher as a result. Even if no person ever even sees the link, let alone clicks it.
EDIT: I'm now concerned that there actually is a spamgasm.biz, but I'm sure as hell not going to go check.

You can always post whore by suggesting people’s battery hold down is too heavy.
In reply to Stampie :
yeah, but I doubt anyone would listen to that kind of suggestion. would they? I tried to get you your beer... but it might have been lost in transit.
In reply to sleepyhead the buffalo :
Only someone with serious mental issues would. I had a lot of beers at the Challenge. I'll count one as from you.

The downside to that is that legitimate new users may have found us through an ancient forum post.
Not allowing posted links for a minimum number of posts would help, as would not allowing edits after a half hour or something. Those are common strategies on other forums, not sure if what's under the hood of this forum would make it easy to implement those features, if desired.
Holy canoe v 2.0 is underway. Does having all these guys liked up during a viral scare make them just spam any website they can find to spam?
In reply to Marjorie Suddard :
It's crazy. Do you have a tele number where I can call and renew, by the way..... I'm sure I could find it. I should do that tomorrow. My PCA membership is due for renewal too. Thinks I can do while at home....

I don't like the no-edits part of that. I go back and edit my posts all the time, sometimes years later. I hate finding grammatical errors or spelling mistakes in something that I've written, and I refer back to old threads very frequently.
