Eh... The end was pretty boring I thought.

I was all hyped up, Was ready for the 3 wide finish, then Biffle all of a sudden decided he didnt want to try for the win. Meh.

Fire was pretty cool though!

Man, I'm in the dark... I come across this thread at 1:15am, check Fox and catch the announcers saying good night at the end of the race.

i started watching the race at just after 6pm at the bowling alley where i was subbing on my brother's league team.. i saw the end of the race in the break room at work at just before midnight...

Ok so I know that driving NASCAR isn't easy and that the cars are actually fairly highly engineered but sweet jesus after this weekend it seems like they should just rename NASCAR demolition derby.

I've watched the video numerous times and come to the conclusion he and the truck driver were REALLY lucky.

If the car had rotated another 5-10 degrees the jet nozzle would have slammed into Juan's face.

If it had been another 20-30 degrees the nozzle would have ripped into the fuel cell, resulting in a more intense explosion.

(I remember Montoya dirt-tracking an Indy car around one particular corner time after time while an announcer kept saying, "You can't drive these cars that way." The co-announcer said, "Tell HIM that.")

The fuel, being refined kerosene, would do more damage to the asphalt than the fire did. That is why they used Tide to clean it. I was surprised when one of the commentators remarked that liquid fuel does not burn, it's the fumes, so the fire did not reach the track. Which is correct and why the fire did not damage the track And after the scrubbing it seemed to hold up OK for 40 laps..

The sealant they put down afterwards had a lot to do with the track holding up the last 40 laps.

I remember years ago when I started driving. I had an old VW beetle. They had just finished repaving my street (took them months to do 100 yards of asphalt) and I used to park on the street in front of my parent's house.

I go out to my car one morning and while it is warming up, stalls and refuses to restart. It was then that I noticed the fuel gage was on empty.. the line out of the bottom of the tank had split, dumping a full tank of fuel all over the freshly paved road.. it left a good sized hole

I used to work asphalt paving, and you use diesel to clean off your boots and equipment at the end of the day.
