Home machinist magazine?

My brother-in-law wants a subscription to a home machinist magazine. I found this one: http://www.homeshopmachinist.net/home?noredirect=true

Anybody get it? How do you like it? Are there others I should consider?

it is a good magazine. I've read it many times but never subscribed. The articles are very in depth and the projects are quite good.

Used see them on the racks at the big box booksellers, but not lately. There were actually two magazines, I forget the second one, I'd always buy both wehn I saw them. Sad to say, a dwindling reader base. Most schools have no shop classes at all, much less with lathes and milling machines. The folks with those skills and interests are passing on. Manually operated machines are for die-hard specialists and hobbyists nowdays.

I've subscribed to it. It's fun but they spread the projects out over several months to keep you coming back.....I find that annoying.

I got the free trial of HSM but wasn't overly impressed.

The projects seem like highschool shop classs all over again.

The older issues you can occasionally pick up on ebay or CL, they tend to have more interesting articles, well for me anyhow. Some past issues have included gunsmithing as a topic as well, which is always fun.
