My garage door opener is old as in before remote control old, I like it because it is well built and all of the components are replaceable. It has had a remote control box added to it already probably in the seventies, the remotes are large and make noise when you press the button. Both of my cars have Homelink buttons in them and I would like to use them. Is there a direct retrofit kit for this that outputs to my old analog opener or one that interfaces with the old opener.
The one kit that I did find says that it is only for openers that have safety beams. Mine has a leather clutch for a safety device. I'm not into changing things that are not worn out yet but would like to join the 21st century.
Good luck! I think I've had 4 different cars on 2 different garage door openers, all items with Homelink. I could never get them to sync up and actually work.

Just in case you weren't aware, you have to press the nondescript programming button on the actual garage door opener motor to pair homelink as a new rolling code remote.
akylekoz -- You need a wireless relay / switch that will pair with Homelink and can be wired in-line with your current GD opener momentary switch. Something like this: Click Here
Get an AC adapter brick with 12v - 24v output. Link Homelink to the receiver. Wire the relay in-line like the current opener button.
Yep, well aware.
I tend to RTFM when trying to complete certain tasks.
In reply to z31maniac :
It was a 2 step prosess for our car , SAAB. I had to hold an existing remoter up close to the homelink in the car and push buttons, then I had to hit the program button on the opener and buttons on the homelink. It wa a pain in the butt.
Yep, even tried with it two people multiple times. Never worked.
But I have a normal opener on the visor. It's actually closer than the homelink button on the rear view. So it's not really a concern.
In reply to Tyler H :
This just replaces my old remote system with one that is homelink linkable.
Should work, I may even try it some day.
Thanks
Homelink is awesome if you RTFM, as stated prior.
The only stuff it does not work on is the brandy brand new stuff unless you have a brandy brand new car.
Basically the procedure for the rolling code modules, anything without DIP switches in the remote, is you have to tell the Homelink which frequency you are running on first (by holding the programming button on the homelink and on your remote) then you have to add the newly configured homelink as an approved remote to your system, via pressing the learn button on the opener and then the homelink on your dash and doing the handshake.
If your remote is so old it still uses DIP switches, the Homelink system will clone it complete, no need for the second step. That feature *may* have expired on some of the newest Homelink stuff because the install base on that style of opener is so low any more.
Any problems with Homelink do a complete reset of both the opener and the homelink module then RTFM. Should work tip top. If there is a problem with your homelink and the LEDs on the module in the car are working fine, chances are the remote you are using is the culprit. If that is the case, a new universal remote on Amazon should get you home. We are using nothing but homelink with my 4 garage door palace, only have one generic remote that gets dusted out do to a learn any time we get a new car.
Don't forget to clear your Homelink when you sell your car!

If you have an older car, like my '08 GX470, and newer garage door openers, you need a Homelink Repeater. Homelink will send you one for $8. Problem solved.

i'm gonna have to look that up, because the Homelink on my 2019 Liftmaster 8500W doesn't play nice with the Homelink in my 2007 525xi. i did RTFMs and follow them to the letter.
