I'm bringing this back because I may have a line on a ford diesel wheelchair bus. I'm thinking I could make the back end open up and pull a miata in it. I'm trying to decide on what type of ramp system or liftgate to use. Any ideas? Cheap is important. Safe is ok too.

Got any pics of something similar? I'm wondering about wheelbase, rear overhang, height... Is it Econoline-based, or something more solidly in the "bus" category?

It is e350 based. It's long enough that I could fit a miata inside and still have two rows of seats. It's also wide enough. I was trying to figure out a way to avoid having really long heavy ramps. My plan was to have fold down seats so that when the car is out of the bus, it's a good place to hang out at the track.

I've done several conversions and framed out a ramp door with 1" square tube, plywood inside (top when lowered) and sheet metal ( galvanized or aluminum) outside. With short ramps in addition you should have a very shallow entry angle. If you mount a winch inside you can use it to raise and lower the ramp door and also pull the car in. Much easier on clutches and safer too.
