Have a 2013 base model with a manual. Live in Florida, ac takes a while, but will cool the car. 3 teenagers, my wife and I fit in the car easily...with still lots of storage behind the back seats. One of the funnest cars to drive that I've ever owned. Personally, I think it handles better, stock to stock, than my old '91 SE-R. There are plenty of suspension tweaks available, plus ktuner does have a programmable tune available.
I drove a Sport with the auto and paddle shifters, I believe it was an '09. The generation before the current. I liked it, but didn't care for the lateral visibility. The A-pillars were so horizontal that it hid my view of pedestrians. The little windows below the A-pillar helped a bit, and it wasn't as bad as the Prius visibility, but it would take some getting used to for me. If you do a lot of city driving, it could be frustrating.
The auto with the paddle shifters was meh, but I bet with the manual and good tires, it'd be a fun car with a lot of utility.
They have more rear legroom than a similar year Civic, which is crazy.
I just picked up a 2010 Fit Sport 5-spd with 106k miles a couple months ago for less than $5k. It's my second 2nd gen Fit. The first one was an auto that I liked but didn't love because of it being auto, I loved every other aspect of that car. I caught myself driving it more than my 2016 WRX simply because it was way more fun to drive on my commute to work. It's being used more as a utility vehicle as well. Recently had 45 bags of lava rocks and 200 pavers on a trip to home depot and didn't even flinch. I love the car and I plan on doing some more work to it now that my WRX is sold.
I drove a new one. I liked it but it's much more domesticated. I'd say it makes a better DD than previous generations so unless you plan on autoxing or being a rolling chicane on track days, go for a new one. They offer all of the same quirks and functions that previous gen Fits have just in a more comfortable manner. I've seen on fit freak that some guys have figured a way to mount a rear sway bar to the newer model and the engine is a bit more responsive to mods than the previous L15.
We just got SWMBO's Fit back from the airbag recall last night, so today I took it for a spin & got some nice dorifto action around a wet on-ramp. Yep, still slow, still fun.
I'm taking mine to the SCCA rallyX in a few weeks. It coincides with college friends opening a brewery/bar in the same area. Should be a great weekend.
