My daughter's '07 Fit is asking for a radio code after the battery was disconnected during service. We found what appeared to be the code in her owners manual, and also written down on a post-it note in the manual, but it did not work. She then went to the Honda site & entered her VIN to retrieve the code, which matched the one in the manual.

So, 2 questions:

1.) I'm finding conflicting info on how to enter the code. Do we use the 1-6 presets to enter the code directly? i.e. #3 then #2 then #1 then #2 then #3? I also found instructions that stated we need to press the #1 key 3x, then the #2 key 2, then the #3 key 1, etc. but that didn't seem to work.

2.) The car was stolen from the previous/original owners, but recovered and only needed minor repairs. If the radio was replaced, would holding the #1 and #6 keys return the correct s/n for this radio, or do we need to physically pull the radio and find the code on the sticker?

In situations where the code sheet was missing, we've been able to pull the radio and get a Honda dealer to find the code for us.

Just did this on DW's 2004 TSX and we used the tuning knob to select the numbers.

I tried turning the knob, but it didn't seem to do anything. I presume I wait until the "C" is displayed, then I should be able to turn the knob & see digits increment on the display? It just stayed on the "C" when I tried that.

Does the knob also push in? Might have to push it in when the C is displayed to enter the "enter code" mode. Just a guess.

In my experience, just push the 1-6 buttons.

In reply to EastCoastMojo:

That's the power button. Entering the code with the 1-6 presets seems to work, since the radio display changes from "C" -> "O" -> "D" -> "E" as it's supposed to.

That makes me think we don't have the correct code...so maybe the real question is: If the radio was replaced, would the code generated for the radio remain unchanged, and thus now be incorrect?

If the radio was replaced, I think it would have a different code. Is it written on the radio somewhere? Like on top or on the bottom?

You know, there are some really nice aftermarket radios out there in the low two bill range. Just sayin'.

Sometimes, the radio's SN is a sticker on the inside of the glove box, which a dealer can then pull the code. However, since the code you have isn't working. The radio may have been replaced with another OEM unit, unless you can find the dealer/paperwork from when the radio was replaced. You, or a dealership needs to pull the radio to make sure you have the correct code for the radios SN that is currently in the vehicle.

Edit: Every honda I've had to enter the radio code for at work used the 1-6 preset buttons.

A bit of closure - she finally got the code to work...it turned out her preset buttons were sticking causing the digits to either not enter, or enter twice.
