I know in areas of Canada they were doing the same thing on Elements.  I'm sure it is the same area of issues, the front of the rear trailing arm attach location.  The vid I saw on YouTube showed the reinforcing bracket that was installed on an Element that was not to badly rusted.  Apparently if it is too rusted, it gets taken off the road?

In reply to Catch22 :

Yeah, The Elements had the same issue. I could see them being next.

That's why I didn't even look at one from the north when I got mine. Instead I've got a life long FL car that I'm exposing to the fun of being a Nebraska car.

My wife's 2013 HONDA CRV is totally rust free. So whatever was done has clearly worked.

Cold doesn't cause rust, salt does.

There are a lot of rust free older cars north of the 45th parallel because they don't bother to salt.

That said, I would surprised if any of those are even still on the road around here.

Yeah, the "cold" part is an odd choice of words. Is the MSN writer from California? Snowy would be a better choice, but even then it's not quite accurate.

A friend lost an Element to structural rust in Ottawa. Not sure how long it took, I forget the year of the car.
