Oh, make him back up a little bit before the start. Maybe he'll leave it in reverse and forget.

Dig a truck-sized hole in his lane before he arrives and cover it with a brown tarp and leaves.

I'm seriously rooting for you as the underdog but I'm just not hopeful you'll be able to overcome the physics

I think a lot of these guys are on to something.

A lot of this is the mind game. Get it in his head he's going to smoke you. Puff up his ego. Play as hurt as you can. I've won more races with my mouth and my head that I ever had on car....on xbox. That's the ticket.

Yeah, but amazing the aluminum body saves almost one thousand pounds.

In reply to Robbie:

I saw a wreck where the whole side of an F150 was pealed off. Everyone said "Look at the beer can!!! hahaha"

I responded "Ford has a bonded steel firewall in those trucks, you can see where the bonding held and ripped the steel. The Steel failed not the aluminum."

and 1000lbs lighter too.

My advantage is he'll not want to do anything like lower tire pressure. I'm hoping to beat him off the line and hold him off before he has a chance to blow by me.

Chevy trucks are almost the same weight as the aluminum ford.

You have a chance....

Do it best of 3.

What about filling your bed with water for the launch, and letting it drain out at a rate that leaves the bed empty at the 1/8th?

It's free, and you could have the win if it gives you the traction you need.

Having driven 4x4 trucks of all kinds on all kinds of surfaces, traction in 4-High won't be much of an issue.

Not enough power-to-weight to worry about.

I think you should throw 4 bags of cement in the rear and see what that gets you in the traction department.

I would guess that power here is irrelevant as you both are going to be hunting for bite.

You can do it!

IIRC, the weight difference between the aluminum F-150 and the previous gen equivalent is around 700 - 800 lbs.

Every 100lbs adds a bit of time to your 1/8 mile.

That's with everything else being equal

Not sure I'd take a heavier truck with less power and add several hundred pounds to it in the name of traction. Certainly wouldn't do much for the front tires' traction.

My guess is you guys might have 30-50 feet of searching for traction in 4-High and most of that will be equal amongst both trucks. The rest will be power-to-weight and we already know which truck wins that.

(I reserve the right to be proven wrong as I learn more from it)

Find the snail under his hood. Run a 2" self tapping screw right thru the outside of the roundest part of the aluminum. Close hood.

On dirt it is going to be who can hook up.

Big gnarly tires aired down, maybe a sand bag or two strapped down over the rear axle. Go someplace and practice a bit on a similar surface, try some things and have a friend clock you to see what works.

I am saying it anyway, but I think it goes without saying that we expect a link to the youtube video.

Has anybody suggested dropping tire pressures yet? Run in 4wd high and do some practicing on dirt beforehand. When I race people off the lights in winter, I put in 4wd high and squeeze the throttle progessively harder as the speed goes up, just on the edge of wheelspin.

What about selling the chebby and using it as a down payment on the same truck as his. Then it's all about driver skill.

My van with the same drivetrain will start in second, I figured this out while pulling my trailer up hill out of a campsite. It felt like the trailer brakes were on.

I would suggest starting in 2nd if it was a 2wd race.

Air down the tires some, and avoid hammering the launch, you'll likely get the jump on him. If you just mash the throttle, you'll spin and it will take a while to get the momentum needed. The less grippy the surface is, the more likely driver skill will determine the winner.

Lowering pressures does not always increase traction.

Adding weight can increase time.

But sounds like fun anyway.

Since you're hooning you could just drive straight into him, less wounded truck wins the race. I'd say 50/50 shot then, maybe even better since you get to sorta decide where to hit him. Or when he get a little ahead you nose his rear over and spin him. I would love to see the look on his face if you did that.
