I picked up a set of Hoosier R6 tires recently and intend to give them a whirl at at Detroit area autocross event this weekend. I know, not the optimum tire for autocross but I pilot a non-optimum car for autocross so thought I'd have some fun.

Car-Subaru SVX w/manual trans Weight-3500# w/driver Engine-stock front to exhaust tip ~180HP to the wheels Suspension-Koni inserts with GC coilovers-500F/375R and big rear bar. The car is massively nose heavy (H6 cantileverd out over front axle CL) but the big rear bar and increased spring rates help flatten her out in the corners.

I only have experience with street tires so I'd like some suggestions for starting pressures. I crank pressures up on my old RE-01R's to 44 F and 42R and I like the balance I get.

What say you GRM???

Thanks, Todd

On a race track I run them at 38 hot. They like a lot of negative camber too (-3+).

^What he says^

On a 3100# M3 (e36) using 245-40/17 on 9" wheels I shoot for about 38 hot as well.

If I get practice I go out at about 32 and bleed down to 38 as soon as I can when I come off.

I'm at -3.2F, -2.1R w/ about 1/16"/side toe in R, out F.

Thanks gents! Had a blast on them today and nailed some impressive times considering my 22 year old car and irregular appearances at events in the last few years.

I'm only at 1.75 negative but took your suggestions and the tires worked well for me and my co-driver. CCM (Corvette Club of MI) allows Hot Laps so I pulled tow back to back runs to heat them up. The grip was impressive to say the least. I can only imagine the step up to A6's from the R6 for autocross. I'm still smiling from the event this afternoon

Awesome. Hoosiers are great.

I thought R6s were great 'til I got a C sports racer (1235#, Suzuki Hayabusa engine, aero) which uses Hoosier bias ply slicks in 35A (medium) compound.

I've seen 2Gs on the data on flat corners, and saw 2.2 on the banking at Charlotte.

Hoosier has very good documentation of this. Will give you a good starting point at the least:
