Using direct injection, which is pretty recent, but using a distributor, which hasn't been used for a while.
that, and some of the statements are not correct, more stuff of urban legends vs. actual technology.

i'm pretty sure howstuffworks.com got started with a nifty gif animation of a V8 internal combustion engine that was accompanied by a really good article about the suck-squish-bang-blow 4 stroke engine...

And it appears to be throttled by air/fuel ratio like a diesel, too, as there's no throttle body.
The animation is pretty good, though.
Well, if we want to get picky. The engine is set up sideways like a front wheel drive.
We all know that rear wheel drive is right wheel drive, even has the same initials. RWD.
All-in-all, not a bad representation for people that don't know a lot about how engines work.
