UPDATE: it's a 2004, not 2002, it does have a 4.6 in it and it's got about 140k on the clock. It's bumped and bruised and looks like it lived in a big city. It's cheap, but I don't think I'm going to take on this project
the 4.6 can be a ticking timebomb. supposedly the 2004 was better than my 2003 as it did not have the problems with misaligned dowels holding the oil pump in place. Unlike my 2003 it also has a true locking transfer case. I wish I had that part

Oh yeah? How much would you pay for that part? I haven't bought the Rover yet, but if I could part it out, even partially, that might sway my decision
it depends on where you are. Shipping that beast would not be cheap. If you are near the Mid-Atlantic region, I will look around and see what they are going for

I just pulled a nice winch mount off a Discovery in the junkyard even though I don't own one.....yet!
I was going to start a new thread, but this one popped up first in my cursory GRM search. My son has discovered a '92 local-ish to me for cheap (kind of like a free boat or airplane, I figure). It appears from a quick google exploration that this has coils rather than airbags, and a 3.9l engine.

My first impression is 'Run!' . Then there would be the issue of getting a 4500lb AWD lump home if not driveable.
There are guys here with more knowledge on these but, this is a RR classic and hood ones are seeing a noticeable bump up in prices so, if you end up putting money in it, you do have a good chance of seeing most, if not all of it, on the other side.
It honestly looks loke a good buy as the cheapest one near me has been about 2k and had issues.

I've basically decided against this project, but I recently stumbled upon a very inexpensive BMW 740. Does anyone know if some other BMW engine, say one from a nearly-free 1999 740 could be adapted to the Land Rover at a reasonable cost?
