How do we clean out the HVAC system?

Winter is here, the e30 is old, and musty. The interior is in great shape, no smoke damage... but it does have that 25 year old smell.

Grassroots ways to clean out the hvac system?

I thought about attaching a swiffer duster to the end of a weed whacker spring drive thingy turning that sucker on and feeding it through the vents.

Buy a BJs/Costco-sized can or Right Gard and spray it into the fresh air intake at the cowl, while the fan is running full tilt, all 3 levels of ductwork are open, and the recirc tab is closed.

If its accessible, yank er out and spray er out with some break cleaner.

IIRC, Wurth makes an aerosol specifically for the purpose.
