I have a 48 volt EZ Go golf cart and it's not fast enough.  So other than bigger tires how do I increase it's top speed?

Put 60 volts to it?

Well, it probably has a motor controller that is limiting the top speed.

Dunno if the controllers are tunable or not, but you may be able to trick the speed signal - similar to modifying the governor on a gas motor.

Edit- it has been a while since I was seriously researching golf cart stuff (with the intention of building electric motorcycles) but I think there is a measured resistance or induction that changes as the motor speeds up. Intercepting and modifying that signal should allow the controller to continue to apply full voltage to the motor for longer.

Faster,  faster, until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death.

My buddy has one of their controllers, upgraded wires, a motor and gears.  It is ridiculous, he said its literally the scariest thing he has ever driven.  It easily goes 45 mph with 2 people.

I always used a putter to bend (shorten) the throttle linkage. For electrics I’ve got nothin’

Thanks, now I can spend/waste more even time.

Right now my dog outruns me and I can't have that.  To be fair tho, she's quite fast.

I gas powered mine. I even did a bit of a build thread. It would run about 25 mph.

It used to be Electric.

I used to know an EV modder kind of guy who modded golf carts. I briefly rode in his on some dirt roads through an RV park in the country and it would almost lift the front tires on dirt. It was sweet. As mentioned i think the main thing is get a fancy controller. After that you will move on to the next weakest link, but if your battery pack or your motor is currently not overworked, it's because of your controller. That's kind of a rule of logic in EV stuff.

Yeah, the controller is probably you're limiting factor- if it's running on a DC motor (which since golf carts need to be simple and cheap, it likely is) you might be able to increase the angry pixies to it and get more power in return, in exchange for worse bearing life and maybe tearing through some brushes. Also, check to make sure the batteries can handle the draw from the controller- EV West once had a good video about that were they melted some lead-acids on camera using a joule thief and some other whizbangery.

Guy I know did a controller swap and saw good gains. No dyno chart or anything but was clearly running harder. There are kits on golf cart sites with controllers and motors iirc.

How fast is your dog?  I've got an air cooled KZ-650 I4 with a Kerker just sitting on a stand ......

She is FAST!  Her idea of fun is to run with the deer.  The deer aren't too keen on it.  And she can do that all day long.

She's a Great Blue Matian.

I made that name up to satisfy a lady that was freaking out at the Vets because her pure blood was having to mingle with the mutts.

Her dad was a 9 month old Great Pyrenees who they thought was too young to father pups.

Mom was 50/50 Blue Heeler and Dalmation.  She is trim rather than blocky and quite smart and fast.

Yes and the golf cart is one way we exercise the dog.  Plus the Grands love to race the dog in it too.
