Not the new C8 Corvette but, rather, a mid-engine, Subaru-powered Chevette. Also on the build menu: box flares, lots of auxiliary lamps and some iconic colors.

It pretty much ticks all the boxes.
Why does a Chevette with a gen 1 3.4 V6 sound like so much fun.
There was someone on this forum that was a pretty big fan of this platform but I can't remember who. I think they actually do have good ingredients from a high level, with a decent front suspension (maybe the details aren't so great?) and I think they're a nice size & shape.
Seems like a fun, cheap canvas to work with.
The Chevy Chevette is based on a successful European car that raced in many series, including WRC, etc.

The first car my father ever left me drive war a 1976 chevette. Some years later Ihe found me a $500 1978 automatic that 8 bought to get to school...what a pos. I bought it in NY winter an the first warm sunny day the ice in 5je carpet melted and the floor fell out!
My point is it NEVER occurred to me to race it :)

I'm partial to the later 60 deg v6. They are solid motors. However, the 3.8 makes more power out of the box.
I just put a 3500 in my 87 rx7. Fun engine!
2.0L Ecotec would weigh less and make more power.

Yeh but get about 1000 penalty laps.
you do realize that LeMons is a $500 junk car racing series don't you?
They pretty much don't care what you bring but it better be legitimately cheap.
The Chevette was just a FWD FIero, so almost the same as a Ferrarrree
Can confirm "clickbait" worked . . .
Super cool story, though, so I will forgive it.

All Chevette's were RWD. The Fiero used some Chevette parts like the front suspension.

We're internet famous!!!!
The car is owned by a couple buddies of mine and I've had the pleasure to race it twice. It's a riot! Maybe a little less than reliable, but we'll be back and hopefully better/stronger/faster.
We're still running the flat 6, and hopefully it'll hold together. First one blew up quickly at it's first race, but had something like 200k on it.
Second engine blew up at the second event when we lost all the water (run a coolant pressure sensor too...) and the coolant temp sensor in our coolant pipe didn't read high since it only had air. Since we already blew up a transmission at that race, we may as well burn the midnight oil and rebuild a 3rd basket case motor and get it going. Welp, when we decided to reuse the front cover and oil chip filled oil pump at 3am because we weren't thinking... The engine lasted only a couple laps.
We've since broken damned near every weld in the chassis and suspension at NHMS, but mechanically ran flawlessly. Complete overhaul of the suspension began in earnest but life got in the way, hope to be back late this year.
Haha. My buddy Tyler (Crank Yankers Racing) ran the subie 6 cylinder in an impreza for a few years in champcar. Never finished a race with that engine.
If you want to hear his trials and tribulations, shoot me an email and I will put you in touch with him.
