So, I need street tires for the Celica. It has 14" Konig Rewinds on it, and as we all know, 14s are tough to find. I could spend about $400 on crappy 225/60 14s or I could get some bigger wheels. (I already got bigger wheels, but now they're gone. Grrrr)

So I was looking around. Looks like you have to go to 16s to get some good tire selection. I found these and love them.

Sexy. Now, those, clearly, are copies of Volk Racing wheels. That's fine, 'cause I'm not going to spend the money for the real deal for street wheels for a race car. But darn, the Volks look cool with the stickers and all.

Well, turns out, you can buy the stickers. Huh.

Knock off wheels are one thing. Shoot, the Rewinds I have now are knock offs of Watanabes, which are knock offs of old Minilights. But would the stickers be going too far?

I dunno. I haven't decided what I'm goint to do yet. Might just buy tires and call it a day. But it looked so much cooler with more wheel and tire on it for the few days I had them. This was just a silly idea I looked at last night, and now today I'm thinking- that is kinda cool.

What say you all?

Stickers might make them more likely to appeal to thieves. I have no issues with you putting the stickers on, but if you ever sell them, make it big and bold in the ad that they are knock-offs.

After thieves took the last set of wheels, I'm renting a garage for the car. So I'm not as worried about that. And, hell, if they stole my lame Drag wheels, they'll steal anything.

If I sold them I would ABSOLUTELY be clear as a bell about what they were. Not looking to rip anyone off, just put cool looking wheels on the car. And they do look cooler with the stickers. If I were more resourseful I'd figure out how to print up some "ROYS Engineering"(TM) and "VAKE Racing Wheels"(TM) stickers. Now that would be cool.

I just changed it out for a different pic. Working now?

Maybe you could make up your own silly stickers, to get that look without the cognitive dissonance from doing something so akin to just buying R-Type badges for a Civic EX...

imagine these in the same fonts:

VOLK
swagenbeater

RAYS

EDIT: Ha, you beat me to this one already...

That's a good way of putting it.

I wonder how hard it is to make stickers? Ebay is littered with those wheels. I wonder if I could print up some funny stickers and sell them to other people with the same idea. Personally I think it's a hoot, but I'm not sure anyone else shares my odd-ball sense of humor.

We have a fellow GRMer that can make your stickers, he owns a Wartburg. Send him a PM. ROYS and VAKE sound good to me!

I love hilarious semi-original looking stickers.

I used to have an '84 Mercury Marquis.

"De Sade Edition".

Those stickers were kinda crap, though, just laminated paper made up by Kinko's...

I've always like Vork wheels. Also you're looking for the man that just purchased a 78 Mercury Biggasswagon.

I'll shoot you a note this evening.

Looks like "ROYS" has been done.

If we're going to make something custom, it has to be obviously a joke and has to actually be kind of funny. The Vorks are obviously trying to fool you. I'd want it to look legit, but when you read it you bust out laughing.

Maybe under "ROYS" or "RONS" or whatever, instead of "Engineering" you put "Misleading". I think "VAKE Racing Wheels" is pretty funny, but maybe think about it a little more. Maybe "VAKE Phony Wheels"

I think I'll have some ice cream and give it a good think.

Kinda like the ones I'm making for my struts on the Challenge/Lemons Yugo that look like the Koni logo but say Foni.

I like that.

Came up with this on the way home. "VAKE Posing Wheels". I like it 'cause the leading "P" kinda looks like an "R" and it has the "ing", yet, it says the right thing.

RAYS is kinda harder. Looking at the ROYS made me think the round "O" messes it up. Needs straight lines and angles. Something with Ns or Ms or something. I'll keep brainstorming.

(edit) Okay, breaking all the observations I just made about Os and such, how 'bout "BGUS"?

do 16's have good tire selection??

I thought 15's and 17's were kind of the sweet spot but that E36 M3 changes every year.

Getting off topic and going back to your existing 14" wheels. How wide are they? You could run Dunlop Direzza Sports, they come in a 195/60 14 that works well on 14" Miata's.

Back on the fake topic. This shows my European heritage and biase compared to JDM Yo'ness, but what about Sparco or Compomotive rip off/homage? Both those wheels were very popular in the 80's and 90's on a lot of European touring cars and WRC / other rally cars. I often thought that BMW bottle caps painted white with fake COMPOMOTIVE style script just saying MOTORSPORT would look awesome. Yes I realize this is a Japanese car, but they also ran in WRC events

Nah stickers are going too far, and you know how the thieves love your car, don't need to go out of your way to attract them.

Also, 16s on the street? I've been looking for 14s to get a nicer ride, although it's true that the only decent 14" tires, other than R-comps, are Star Specs.
