Count me in on that. We LOVED that car...whenever I look at something, I'm finding that it doesn't really compare that well to the M3/4/5.

Thanks again, Nathan! I LOVE this car, too. It may be the best all-around car I have ever owned.

it's funny... you guys talk how e36ms are rare... where I am.. E36s in general are rare. Even the E46 platform seems to have mostly disappeared as the e90/92 cars took over.

This area is still very "yuppiefied" when it comes to owning/buying the newest latest thing

Not all E36's, just the '97-98 M3/4/5. ... and the M/3/4/5 is not really rare, just getting a little harder to find.

M3 sedans were only made in the US market for 97 and 98. All other years '95-99 were coupes or convts.

I have to say that I'm somewhat intimidated by the prospect of working on one of these.

Don't be. I've found it very easy to work on and most of the maintenance parts are quite inexpensive.

RandyS wrote: I hear that nearly daily from past E36 M3 owners, "Wish I had that car back, never should have sold it". Good low mile examples still get $10-15k. A $5k M3 will be over 150k miles and usually needs a few things freshened. Mine was $5500 and needed a clutch, brakes, control arm bushings, steering rack, plugs, and a few inexpensive sensors/trim pieces. I also changes out the Dove interior for Black/Modena and added a 99 three spoke wheel. I've probably got $7k total in it by now. as a side note, Modena (Jiff Peanutbutter) goes with Technoviolet (grape juice) very well.

Modena is such a beautiful interior! Great choice to switch out to that from Dove, which was probably my least favorite.

I had two different e36 M3 coupes and loved both. I'd probably still have one if it was an M3/4/5. That always seemed like it would be the perfect car.

The only interior I'd rather have in that car was the hurricane cloth. Most folks hate it, but I would be ecstatic to have this interior in an M3.

I have a '98 M3/4/5. I plan to never get rid of it.

So you're defining sedan as a 4-door. Okay. I thought that a coupe was a subcategory of sedan.

I always liked hurricane.. if I could find the cloth cheap enough, I would redo the interior on my Ti with it

My wife's daily is a 1997 M3/4/5 in Dakar Yellow. Now that's Mom's taxi! Kids never seem to have a problem spotting that one amongst the sea of SUV's.....

A 12k E30 M3 in reasonable condition is considered a cheap E30 M3 these days.

The days of $6000 E30 M3's are over. $10-12k is accepted now for a decent driver.

I had a chance to buy a $4500 E30 M3 in 1997. It was a piece but should have bought it.

wow really? I guess I never paid much attention. I wasnt in the market for anything with a 4 digit price tag in the late 90s . OK, so I guess I am a bit nuts.

I've been thinking about this one. No seats and a few other issues have kept me from going over there to take a look and possibly drag it home . . .

Agreed. I sold my e30 M3 driver in ~2003 for $12k (with ~110k miles). That same car is probably worth $15k-$17k today. Shoulda kept it.

Yes, the E30 M3s are much rarer than the E36s, and passed the low point of their depreciation some time ago. I fear I will never have the pleasure of one. The E36 is still on my radar, though. I'm really torn between it and something entirely less practical.

I am real particular when it comes to my E36 M3 Sedan. I am looking for a 4 door, 5 speed in Techno Violet with Tan interior... If i could find one, i would so buy it!!!1!

I don't believe there was an actual "tan" interior color for M3's. The M3 browns were:

Modena, Magma, Hazelnut, Champagne

Hazelnut Modena Champagne Magma (bronze)

No problem, I'm glad it continues to get enjoyed! I always wonder how one of 'my cars' treats the next owner, and hope it works out. It's great to hear that you love it!

I have one like that with the luxury package and dove interior. Very hard to miss it in the parking lot. I wonder how rare the dakar yellow ones are. seems like most people shy away from really bright colors. I was one of them until i got this.
