How Many GRM'ers KART?

How many of you knuckleheads race Karts?

I'm very surprised to see Karting very rarely come up. I would figure that Karting would be very popular among the Grassroots Crowd as It is very low cost Motosport.

Last year I bought a KT100 kart off the forum for $1000 and $400 later have it ready to race WKA races this summer. Running costs, Entry Fees and Kart parts are quite cheap and Tracks are all over the place.

Just wondering how many people have Karts and Race them.

No tracks near me but the thought has crossed my mind. I think some of the local dirt tracks have kart racing. Not really what I want to do but if it get's me out on the track...

In the off season it is the best way for me to keep sharp, can be silly amounts of fun as long as you have other experinced people out there with you (or at least armatures that will move off the line!)

We have an indoor electric track with 20hp karts. For the autocross club's offseason, we do a monthly series over there.

I actually like it better than autocross; it's arrive-and-drive, and times are much less dependent on how much money you can sink into your car.

We are getting an indoor kart place near here soon, which I expect I'll spend some time at. We have a local kart track that when my son comes of age(if interested) I'm sure I'll spend a lot of time there, and perhaps run a kart of my own. I enjoy karts, the racing I enjoy is not really a good fit for Karts. I do also worry that my back won't enjoy karting all that much and that has prevented me thus far from going in that direction.

karting for fun mostly. we have both an indoor electric kart facility and an outdoor gas kart facility. A really nice one actually. Loads of fun. Arrive, drive 3 10 min sessions for less than $50.

And occasionally the gas kart track puts on enduro races. typically 2 -2.5 hour enduros. Even more fun

yeah, no karting tracks near me, or I would probably be doing that rather than autocrossing.

we do have a indoor karting place, but its an hour drive for me so I don't get to make it there often.

I have started karting since NOLA Motorsports Park was built near me. I started with the rental karts and after a few league races and such, I decided to buy one of my own. I race in the Rotax Max Senior class. It is my only wheel to wheel racing experience and I'm loving it so far. The engines can be a little fiddly to tune, but it's not much for the amount of fun, especially for 125cc. Money-wise it is also very reasonable for racing.

I used to own my own kart, but many of the tracks have closed around these parts. Now I just go http://endurancekarting.com/ when I can. It's the best bang for the buck I've gotten in a long, long time. Highly recommend giving it a shot if the opportunity arises.

There's a new indoor track that just opened around here and I drive past every day. I was all set to jump in with both feet until I got a look at the price sheet. Annual membership is only $40 and it's $17 per race, which sounds great but a "race" is only eight minutes.

I'm sure I'll try it at least once before they go out of business.

Only thing in my area is dirt oval. Closest no longer allows uncaged karts. Must be dirt mod or sprint style kart and is primarily youth. Only thing my age are 270 and 600 micro sprints. At that cost point, I would rather go full scale vintage dirt mod.

Do like vintage karting, but again nothing is close enough. Have thought of hunting cones with something 70's era for defecation and guffaw.

i run carts at Pacific Grand Prix carting course in Kent WA. its a good time, it sits right next to pacific raceways road course. you can rent a cart and run a league race or bring your own, and run with other guys that own their own karts. they run an outdoor track, rain or shine. When i lived in Northern california, i ran at indoor track called Le mans Karting. after moving back to the Northwest i found PGP. Running 9hp cart with slicks in the rain is super hard to learn, you have to change your driving style. Its cheap and Awesome!

I used to run all the time at an indoor that ran Honda gas powered karts, now that AMP is open I need to go up and race. I personally don't own a kart because I own too many other toys. Every time I go up to visit my buddies in Virginia we go out to Summit Point, it's required.

Only kart tracks near me are dirt ovals. I'd rather race by turning the steering wheel both ways. I need to investigate what limerock offers.

That doesn't seem like a bad deal to me. It is cheaper than auto-x and you get longer races. I have a few friends that run weekly and if you do 2 sessions your arms feel like they are going to fall off. Any less than that and they couldn't afford to have the place open.

I do for fun sometimes... NJMP, Summit Point or out at OVRP in NY when enough friends want to go to make it a party but I have a CM sedan that eats up a cash and time budget enough already.

My son was into it for a while but has outgrown his CRG Cadet so if anyone has an 8-12yr old looking to give it a rip... ping me. Low hour Comer 80 has a lot of laps left in it too.

sounds about right. But check with the track they may have specials they run during the week. Normal pricing at the track I go to is $56 for 3 10-min sessions. On Wednesday evenings for FL residents it is $48 for 3 10-min sessions. That;s for the 'normal' rental karts that go up to 45 mph. They also have 70 mph karts you can rent. Those are $26 for one session and if you break anything on it you pay for it!

Check out Oakland Valley Race Park near Monticello, NY too. Depending on where in CT you are it might be closer than LRP. They have an excellent 1 mile kart course, supermoto and other stuff going on too.

I race a KT100 kart in upstate NY, at Cherry Valley Motorsports Park, and will try to get to the Genesee Valley Kart club this summer.

Seat time for the price, you can't beat it.

Have you been to the new track in Mooresville? Its really nice. I have done events at VIR, Charlotte, and recently went down to Mooresville Motorplex just to do some laps in the rental karts. It was by far the best kart track I have driven.

I don't own a kart, but I definitely recommend it for the seat time and the smile it puts on your face!

By the way, has anyone done the school or rentals down at AMP? I would really like to try out a TAG kart but it seems nearly impossible to do so unless you know someone with one or buy one yourself.
