Is this allowed...
And how do they not all have long term nerve, neck, and/or bone damage? Yeah I get it that they have cages and head restraints, but still, hard not to wonder how some of them don't end up seriously injured.
Kind of like, "hey I know, lets have interstate pileups, it'll be fun"
Yeah I know, I sound old.
Demo derby people are a bit "off" to say the least.
I think I posted on this subject quite a while back.
I just watched a YouTube documentary on these guys and one of them broke both femurs, his pelvis and an arm over the years. Something like that.
Here it is: Banger racing
Did I just hallucinate that or was there a wreck in the mid 4 minute mark that involved multiple Previas? Hah-Suck it NHSTA!
Why would it not be allowed?
I'm pretty sure I don't understand the rules though.
Biggest crash wins?
Most broken bones?
Maybe the most blood lost?
Either way, not a sport I want to participate in. It ranks right up there with running with the bulls.
I'd rather run with the bulls

I've watched dozens of banger races and for the life of me I still don't know what the rules are. Like, one guy get a in a corner and they just smash each other as hard as they can, and sometimes there's one really big vehicle compared to the rest, and they'll smash really weird E36 M3 like old rolls Royces and the paint is fantastic but I have no berkeleying clue what the end game is.

I hate to see (apparently) rust-free cars getting destroyed.

It looks like they might be 'softening' the cars with some targeted structural sabotage.
I personally wouldn't go near that E36 M3.
Looks like fun. I can't decide if it's more or less dangerous than the tough truck competitions, because this looks like they have cages and helmets at least, but there's more than one person out at a time.
I learned to drive doing figure 8 and derby racing. It's not that bad.

I bet being an experienced figure 8 racer makes it hard for you to get caught in one of those multi-car pile-ups they always show on the news. "Why's everyone crashing? Just drive through here! The gap's huge!"
Apparently, the first one to finish "X" laps wins. Several heats to advance to a "final", any cars still mobile after the end of the heats/final are eligible for a demo Derby at the end.
Some of them work in teams to take out competition. Some of them are just out for blood.
Only rule involves not hitting the driver's door.
Safety gear is shockingly minimal.
I may be wrong about a lot, this is just what I gathered from the documentary E&I posted.

That's not even fun to watch.
I want to clarify my earlier statement. Derby is not that bad. OP's video is excessive...
I want to do demo derby sooooo bad. I'm willing to sacrifice something from the 70's v8 and american!
I don't understand why those drivers drive into the wrecks at full throttle with no attempt at steering around them.
Umm, like, isn't football all caught up in the long-term effect of repetitive concussions? Am I the only one who sees the connection?

I've done demo derbies. But this video was insane. We'd get maybe one big hit like in the video per night. That was crazy! My biggest pain was the neck ache from turning my head to see behind me while wearing a helmet.

Definitely do a derby, but don't waste a good car. Find some Japanese POS nobody will miss.
In my experience the 4 cylinder races were way more exciting anyway. We always ran Mk1 and 2 volkswagons.
Every time a car quit, the next car to come along would rear end it at full speed. Is this a race series for drunk drivers? I expected to see more gray Honda Accords.

I’d be very proud to have gray Honda Accords to be the new GRM substitute for violent crash.

Now, go for the ultimate, an all-Prius "race", I'd cheer that.
