In the space of 8 to 10 days, while crossing the Southeast between Tn./Pa. and Tn./Fl. is saw TWO Audi R8s. The first was the "regular" coupe, and the second a roadster(?) cabrio? What really surprised me about this car was how SMALL it is after looking at the pix in magazines. I expected a car that was big/massive and these 2 were small/dainty...looking? Is it just me or is it that now that I can see more and more "exotic" brands of cars "up close and personal" they seem to be small and dainty...about the size of a Lotus? For example are newer Ferraris getting smaller, bigger, or staying the same general size as the "classic"/older Ferraris? Or have they always been smallish cars?

I don't think I've seen an R8 on the road yet.
Coincidentally, I did see a Nissan GTR (dark silver) on the drive to work today... and then maybe a half mile after that, a 911 GT2 (black w/ orange side graphics)... It almost made me think it could be some magazine test...
well, its based off the Gallardo, which is kinda sorta small, compared with a Lotus, its larger.

Or the One Lap of America.
I see a couple R8s weekly around here so atleast in the Northeast they aren't rare at all. Same with the GTR, Gayardos and 997s.
On the other hand, I have only ever seen one Caterham Super-7 in the wild (meaning not at a racetrack) and I rarely if ever see a cherry 914 rolling around.
I see GT-Rs often enough 'round here, the occasional Lotus or Astin-Martin.
I think the exotics are staying about the same size they've always been. Styling always makes them look larger than they are (see Viper), partially because they're so much shorter for their width than "normal" cars.

I have seen a 7 on the street. It was a drizzly day and a bit chilly too. The driver was in a cap with googles (top down). Of course, he was heading towards the Lotus dealer in Hopewell, NJ. A couple of run at our regional auto-x events as well (and I don't think they were trailered, either). Since I drive past a Lotus dealer, I see Elises fairly often (not counting the ones in the lot). There's even a Tesla I've seen a few times.
A few months ago there was a traffic jam on Rt 1 on a Saturday for no apparent reason. Then I noticed the Lambo on the side of the road getting loaded on a flat-bed.
I parked beside an R8 once. It made the S2000 look small

I get passed by a Panamera every morning on my way to worn on route 9 in CT. I think it is the same guy who used to pass me every day in a 911.
I've seen one on the road, a black one. Very nice. And yes, smaller than I'd pictured.

I saw an R8 on the highway just outside of Düsseldorf today. The shmuck driving it came up behind me in HEAVY traffic, sat 2' off my rear bumper, and flashed his stupid headlights until I moved over to let him get one car length ahead of where he used to be so he could do the same to the next car in line. Pretty typical Audi driving style around these parts. BTW it's a considerably bigger car than my Lotus.
Actually I see R8s fairly often. Most of them seem to be driven by people I wouldn't sit next to in the pub.

I'd see a decent number of R8s when I was in Daytona. There were 2 local ones I guess that sometimes came out to the ricer meets and sat in the other parking lot and watched... it was odd.
If you think it's particularly small, you may have seen some new TTs. By no means the same car, but Audi did try to resemble the R8 with the new TT IMO. They did the same sort of profile, stubby nose highish roof up front and steadily sloping back. And of course all new Audis have the DRLs (daytime running lamps)
I see three regularly in Butthead. I also see a Ford GT40 at least once a week. I can hear it drive down Piedmont road when I am inside my office on the 17th floor. Thank god I have an office to myself because I need some "alone time" afterwards.
I just happened to see an R8 on the way home from work this afternoon. It was brand new, still had the dealer temporary tags on it.
definitely not rare in this area of big money and big egos...Ive probably seen half a dozen. Then again, it seems like I see M5s and AMG benzes at every stoplight, and it's not uncommon to see people going 5-under the speed limit in their Continental GTs, Vanquishes, GT3s, or Vipers....
The amount of money (or debt?) in this area annoys me...I feel like my two ~$30k cars are "slummin' it" sometimes, lol...
Stuc,
when it says R8 on the side, I'm assuming it's NOT a TT. Which does bring up the point that I guess I figured the R would be MUCH bigger than a TT...at least the TT coupe, but it doesn't seem to be. And Audi is supposedly working on a car smaller than the TT.
A guy that lives somewhere near me has one. There's also a GT3RS , a Carerra GT , and several lambos and ferraris I see on a regular basis.
The guy with the Carerra GT owned an apartment complex I lived in. He also has a Bently Continental GT and several 996tts he lets his employees drive. I felt bad for him every time they had to raise the rent. It was obviously tough financial times for that company.
