My wife's new car has just over 36k miles on it. Today she says it refused to shift out of third gear under gentle acceleration. She slowed, then accelerated two or three times before it resumed normal operation. Hasn't shown itself again. Yet.
2013 Honda Accord V6 with auto trans., not CVT. Mostly highway miles. Never abused.
No CEL, no codes, no leaks. What's the history on these?
IIRC the main issue is the TCC eating itself, although this was mostly on the earlier models.
It may not be a trans issue, it could be something else commanding the transmission to stay in one gear, like stability control.
driveaccord.net has a lot of answers. I don't see a lot of tranny issues though. Dealer - warranty?
Let's be realistic, though. It happened once, sounds like whatever was happening lasted five, ten seconds, and there's no record/evidence of an issue remaining.
Until the issue gets to happen more regularly/repeatably, it's not even an intermittent fault, it is a random fault. Diagnosing it would require getting it to happen again, which might take one road test or it might take a few months. Repairing it without confirming the issue is not repairing, it is throwing random parts at a car, which is more likely to do harm than good.
Torque Converters are still an issue with Honda. There's still warranty. Take it in and let Honda deal with it.

Yep. Rings. There's actually a bulletin for the 11/12 TSX 4cyl. We did a few of those (about 2 dozen) where we pulled the heads, pulled the trans, pulled the cranl and put new pistons and rings in. It worked for about half of them. The other half required a new shortblock. Nothing like burning 2-3 qts of oil every 1,000 miles out of your new car.
Was the engine or weather really cold? If it's below freezing and you just started the car, some transmissions won't shift into top gear until there is a little more heat in the atf. Dunno if the accord is that way or not.

Thanks! Funny thing is, my wife called the dealer thinking we would have to take it in, and he said the warranty was up at 36k. I checked the warranty booklet that came with the car, and I am glad to see the powertrain warranty is 5 years/60k miles. We will wait for the problem to repeat itself before we take it in.

I considered this possibility. The car was driven about 10 miles, then shut off for maybe 15 minutes, then restarted. The problem happened shortly after the restart. It's been colder and not done it in the past, so it would seem that something is awry.
We had a similar tranny problem on the wife's '05 Element. Oreilly's has code readers that are useful. Napa and Advance do not.
You might want to try Oreillys...
