Hey guys,

I have found a really sweet car in the Vancouver area which is really far away, but they have shippers to overcome that trouble. I was wondering what the costs,or problems with bringing a car over the border. It is a 72,so the age thing should allow it to come over, but is there special hoops, and fees involved in this? Any help would be appreciated.

I would think you'd want to talk to Customs about that. They're the ones that are gonna seize your car if it comes over illegally.

It's easy. The car's over 25 years old, so you basically just have to prove you own it and the VIN is the same as the documentation. I've brought in a couple of classics from Canada. Your shipping company can probably handle the import paperwork, I had a broker take care of mine. In both cases, I did the paperwork after the car was driven across the border. The cost of the broker was trivial enough that I don't remember it.

As a price point for the broker, I paid something like $240-$300 for a customs broker to clear my belongings from the UK (which included 3 motorcycles, all older than 25 years).

Funny enough, one of the things that drives customs nuts on a newer Canadian market car going to the US is the metric speedo. They want crash and emissions standards to be met, and get those damn kilometers off the dash.
