I just moved from an AP1 S2000 to a 9th Gen Accord Coupe V6 with automatic transmission. I had the S2k for daily duty which was a hardly enjoyable experience, despite it being great in the corners. Just to give you an idea, the car was on coils, square set up with 255 wide tires. It handled like a dream.

I got the accord because I thought it was a good balance of driving and practicality. Now it's an absolute boat and got an automatic transmission, but I want to eventually make it handle a lot better and have dreams of it being able to keep up with the S2000 on a track. There's so little on this car, probably because it's not an enthusiast's car and there are other options with RWD and manual transmission that would make a better platform to start with. However I still want to ask the question of how would this car stack up against the S2000 if I upgraded the suspension, i.e. coilovers, better wheels/tires, sway bar?

The power is there, but is the suspension tunable to the point of being competitive? What are your thoughts?

The trouble you're going to have is getting enough tire under the car. Your car probably weighs 3400 lbs or there abouts. I'd want to see a 275 on a car that heavy if you really want to go fast, but I'm not sure you can get that much tire under the car. There is a significant aftermarket out ther and it looks like some quality stuff is being made, but big cars need big tires to go fast.

The suspension is not going to be the problem. It's the high curb weight (in comparison to an S2K) and no limited slip differential.

As great of a car as the V6 Accord is...and it really is...I don't see it being realistic to try to make it keep up with an S2K on the track.  If you could, I'd think it would be so hacked and modified that it would no longer be an enjoyable street car.

so, no, it didn’t compete against s2000’s.  And yes, this “all race car”, and not a street car.

also, it’d take some work to dig up what all they (team hma) did... but it was relatively competitive iirc.

I bet you if you contact the Team HMA folks they will be more than willing to give you some gouge on how to make it a better handling car. I know speaking with them at hyperfest about the Van and the Accord pictured above they were more than happy to share info. They also run a 9th gen 4 door V6 5AT, one thing they said is a trans cooler is a must for that car with a fluid swap to Redline trans fluid (iirc).

Suspension wise, there are options out there. If I can find things from Koni, Eibach, H&R, etc to make my 5th gen Accord Sedan handle better, there are likely options for a newer 9th gen.
