Like title asks.

Wondering how equivalent the width would be on 225/45-16 ZIIs vs. my old 245/45-16 RS2s. (Yes... RS2s, not 3s.)

On what size wheel?

16x8. I know the 245s were slightly (very slightly) bulgy. I'm not real worried about curbing the wheels, but i'm more worried about being mad at myself for doing some pretty extreme pulling work on the fenders and then having it look pretty goofy over a narrower tire.

This is kinda make or break. I don't really want to go to 17s, but it's looking like i may have to.

(Anyone got a lead on some nice 17x9.5 -10s? )

Run Toyo RA-1 in 245/45. Its a "streetable" R-Comp.

I definitely wouldn't worry about curbing. On an 8" wheel I can't imagine a 225 looking much different (if any) than what you've got now. If a 245 is only slightly bulgy on an 8" wheel, it probably isn't that wide.

I don't know about the ZII because I haven't really seen people use that size. 24" tires are a weird size as you know.

Mr. FSP has a very good point. Or are you trying to get the diameter back down from the 25" you 've got now?

It's also $1000.

I'll do it if it's really the best option, but if the ZIIs will fulfill my needs for $550 after rebate to my door, then i'd just as soon bank the extra $450.

Unless there's a much cheaper source of RA1s in that size somewhere.

Well... i'm really just trying to stay around 245/45-16 in general diameter.

Stock was 195/60-15. I can't really go taller than what i've got now, i'll hit my spring perch. I don't want to go MUCH shorter, it'll start to mess with my gearing, which isn't so bad if i have time to slap my other trans together, but i may not.

Basically it looks like the choices are: RA1 or RE11 in 245/45, ZIIs in 225/45, or stepping up to 17x9s and hoping i can dump my beloved FDs for enough money to make getting the entire 17x9 setup with tires about a wash.

I'd need a 30mm spacer for those.

I was honestly looking at these, then just running the 20mm spacers i already have. Give me a 17x9 -5, but hey... whatever.

That's a little better... Still just about $800 after shipping.

Wonder if i can get Discount Tire to price match either of these tires pre-tax or shipping like they just did for the Geolanders on the Jeep. Then we'd really be in business.

I ran 225/45R16 RS-3 on 16x7s on my Saturn and Geo, which felt awful. I had 16x8s with 225/50R16s on the BMW, but the offset didn't fit in back, so now I am on 16x7.5s with 225/50R16s. The half inch wider rims were noticeable better.

I've been running 245/45-16s, they feel great, and i already modified my car to fit that particular size.

My concerns with the 225/45 isn't that they'll suck on a 16x8, it's that they'll suck on this particular car because it does undesired things to my gearing, and that they might look goofy. (Purely aesthetic.)

Honestly, the ONLY thing that i like about them is the price.

If i go 17s, i'm going for a 255/40-17 minimum. For glory.

don't know about the ZII's, but Rival users are finding out that the 225's tend to work better on 9" rims (better than 8" and MUCH better than 7 1/2")

Why not go with 225/50R16s?

I'm aware that 225s are ideally mounted on 9s for best handling, this was a thing long before Rivals were around.

I'm also aware that 245s on an 8 aren't making the best use of a 245.

However, this isn't really a Miata or a track car.

Basically what i'm looking for in this thread is something like what i found out when i measured my 205/50-15 Star Spec Z1s.

That the true width was actually 217mm.

Spring perch in the way.

The 255s aren't going to work for you then either. I have heard the 255/35R18s are shorter than 255/40R17s. 18x10s, then?

.....

This thread is about the 225/45-16 ZIIs.

I built the car, i'm aware of what is going to physically fit, and what isn't. I know the RA1s and RE11s in the 245/45 size is going to fit, and i know that the ZII in 225/45 is going to fit. I can make the 255/40-17 fit pretty easily, since that's going to involve going to a new wheel anyways, since that size isn't going to fit real well on my current 16x8s.

I'm only trying to figure out how much width i'm going to lose if i go with the 225s, and weigh that against the unwanted change in gearing vs. money in my pocket. I'm aware that the grip performance of the 225 will likely just about equal that of the 245s with my particular setup.

I'm just wondering if anyone has measured their ZIIs to see how "wide" they run. That's all. This isn't a dedicated race car, i'm not out to set records, i'm not dumb enough to try to autocross this horribly overpowered front-heavy pig competitively, none of it.

I'm simply asking about a tire.

8.9" section width........can't find info on the RS-2.

The ZII has such a rep for running wide and is so much stickier, I'm sure it would be fine.

RS2s.

I have 3mm between the tire and the strut body. 3-5mm between tire and spring perch. A taller tire on this wheel setup is not going to work.

Are those things measured actually per tire by manufacturer, or is this one of those things where "Oh it's a 245/45-16 so it's a 9.6"?

I suppose i can figure that out for myself.
