I have my uncle's old toolbox. 45 years old at the newest. I doubt it's ever reall been cleaned. Theres a bit if funk. Nothing bad, probably old grease.

Let's assume I can remove the drawers. Simple Green/Super Clean and scrub, wash, dry, WD40, wipe, and reassemble?

Alternatives? Wipe down in place if I can't get the drawers out?

Awesome patina!!!  I love my 4-year old roll-around, but it doesn't have that "old-school speed-shop" look that yours does.....  Perhaps I should make a deliberate effort to accelerate the aging process on mine......

Believe me,  I've seen what happens in an engine oil thread.

Haha!  Yeah, I wasn't even thinking about that...but you're right, lol.

The drawers had started falling out of my "old" (20 years) Craftsman chest combo, the sheetmetal tabs on the inside walls bent to the point the sliders slipped out. I pulled everything out and apart, vacuumed up the dead bugs and mouse turds , blew it out, cleaned it with 409, paint thinner, and Windex, then spent some time straightening some dents and dings. Installed ball bearing sliders, a power strip, and an LED light strip in the expander box, and now use that to store and charge the cordless tools. Repurposed the other drawers to hold just the electrical tools, supplies, and test equipment. Moved all the hand tools and heavy stuff to a much larger rolling chest from Lowe's.
