I showed this story to my wife. I knew I was potentially screwing myself and my child from having any fun EVER- but the reaction was surprising. She says to me-
"I believe cars are safer on a whole than any other 'sport'. Think of kids on skateboards, bikes, motorcycles and any of the other 'Nitro Circus' events that kids participate in. He'd do more damaage to himself in the long run doing that than driving a car."
The risk she saw was him having a long and debilitated life from a set of torched joints (I may be a large factor in this.....I'm actually on a blown ankle right now) not from the potential of death. She and I agreed that he'd obviously need top end safety stuff- but she is actually in the "I'd rather have him racing cars than anything else" camp.
