I suppose this could be titled "Learn Me", but I just can't bring myself to do it!
I managed to put my track car into the wall a couple of weekends ago. The damage was modest - bent hood, front bumper and side fenders. Given that the car cost me ~ $2,000 and is slow as snot, however, I want to sell it and move on. I don't really want to put the money into fixing it up, as I will have to buy all the new body panels, install them and pay for an alignment, all to sell it for not much more than I bought the car for originally.
I tried getting a quote from an online "we buy scrap cars" website (CarBrain), but they offered me way less than I could get for parting out the car.
Should I just part it out and then try to sell whatever is leftover to a scrap metal yard? Or does anyone have any bright ideas for selling it as-is? I'd prefer not to spend 100s of hours towing various parts all over the east coast, but I also want to maximize my total sale revenue....
Thanks!
Anywhere that will take the whole car is just going to pay scrap value, so $150-400 most likely.
Fleabay is pretty anti seller these days, but probably your best bet for maximizing value. Depending on the car it could go quick or take months.
Craigslist and faceache could be useful depending on your area, just make people come to you instead of delivering stuff for free.

I've never sold on EBay, I am assuming that as a first-time seller people tend to distrust you?
Thanks!
I see your in DC, whats the racecar? I could be interested if it's caged.
I know here in RVA I helped a friend get rid of a totalled Accord (ran off the road due to deer and only had liability) for $100 plus whatever the tow/overnight fee was for the folks that pulled it out. Called an ad for we buy junk cars on Craigslist and had them meet at the gate for the tow lot.
You'll never get much selling it for scrap. The only way to get some money out of it is pull all the parts worth anything to sell and scrap the rest by weight.

2007 Pontiac Solstice. I went into turn 1 at Dominion too fast, got my right wheels on the gravel at exit and spun. I went into the tires at maybe 30mph. Coulda been a lot worse!
Anyway, it's not a racecar as it only has an aftermarket rollbar, not a full cage. The way it gets classed, it won't be a competitive racecar in any of the SCCA or NASA classes. I have no idea about Lemons/Champ, but the engine and various other parts are worth more than the $500 limit, I think.
Send me a PM if you want to chat further! I'd be happy to trailer it down to you.
How much for the whole car? MIL’s sky had similar damage and i figured for sure they would total it and i would get a turbo car cheap, but they somehow sourced the saturn parts and fixed it.
Yes, place ad for bent sub 2k solstice on here and watch the fish jump!
Put me in line behind Pat.

Sounds like a plan! I'll figure out what the safety gear is worth and post it tomorrow....
In reply to Dave M :
Ah, yeah Dominion can bite, I'll let someone else here have it as I'm in the same boat with NASA/SCCA classing. Somebody will want it I'm sure.
If you don't want to part it out, agreed on just listing someplace like here in the forums for what it is. You'll get more than scrap money and somebody will challenge budget partout the car to get what they want out of it.

If you do end up having to strip it and sell it for metal: In CA at least, a car cut in half is metal, a stripped car is a car and has the associated VIN / registration concerns.
