I've driven a non-N Ioniq 5 (we own an Ioniq 6) and didn't consider it large. Here are the dimensions.

Wow this thread took a turn, lol.  By my estimate Keiichi Tsuchiya is maybe 2" taller than the Ioniq. Since he's slightly slouched in the photo, I don't think it's manipulated.

I'll bring it back: I drifted the "standard" Ioniq N on a wet skidpad. It was fun, but trying to keep wheelspin/oversteer right where you wanted it was way harder in the EV than I find it to be in an ICE car. Be interested in how that new edition "helps" with that, if at all.

Also, I watched the video. He's a very small man. But I swear that rear door looks HUGE!

Looks like the driver is 5'6" and the car is 5'3".

Some people will never get over the fact that its a Hyundai.

It's certainly supercar quick in a sprint.  I have no idea how it handles.  But yeah, at $66K, it's hard to beat in that limited metric of 0-60 if that's your thing.

Hyundai/KIA have come a long way in recent years regarding performance and luxury vehicles.

Honestly, my parents have the regular single-motor Ioniq 5 and I found its "base" handling dynamics to be pretty impressive. It reminded me a lot of the balance of my (Mk7) GTI - though you could definitely feel the weight and the higher-profile tire sidewalls/less sporty tires. But I fully expect the N version to be pretty damn impressive. Not that I'd spend $66k on a car like that, but still neat.

Agreed--I wonder how quickly these will depreciate.  I could definitely see myself in a second-hand example.

My only practical thoughts after thrashing them at Sonoma, and having an absolute blast: it would be so hard to really drive it in anger on the street with so much acceleration on tap, and tracking an EV isn't common enough for there to be any consistency as to track charger setups or whether all tracks will even allow EV's, so I'm not sure (personally) that there's a use case once the novelty wears off.

I say all that to say, if they manage to depreciate precipitously, I'll buy one for a fun romp on the weekends in a heartbeat.

Story time...

A couple months ago I was right-seating for an intermediate student in a C8 at COTA.  He was pretty good.

During one of the sessions I glanced in the mirror between T19 and T20 only to find a vast machine on our tail.

"Uh, I think an SUV just caught us -- better let him by just after T20", I chuckled.

My guy dutifully points him by, at which point I say, "Now hit the gas, hard!"

The Ioniq 5N walks us down the front straight -- by a LOT.

Tsuchiya is kinda infamously short, I remember there where a few cars when he came and did the hot version in the US that he couldn't drive because he couldn't reach the pedals. The driver's weren't super tall either.

EVs and the air around them are oddly goofy to me still. Kinda like when you talk with someone who doesn't really know much about cars at the gas station when you're towing to the race track. They're not unpleasant, but the understanding is clearly not there.

Instant torque manipulation and the rest make driver's that are quick in those cars but aren't good in anything else on track - though the same can be said for a lot of modern cars. And the WEIGHT, as mentioned - according to what I see online it's 5800# without driver, I'm just imagining flogging that for a weekend and what it's doing to all the joints, tires, and body- that's a ton (or 3 har har har) of weight. That's more than my Silverado weighs...

Also this, like the "sport" mode in a CVT Nissan.

The paddle shifting is a gimmick, but it's a really, really well executed gimmick. I feel like it would be a good tool for your first few laps of a new track to help set your rhythm a bit, then flick it off once you get your patterns down.

It's goofy, but it's also all about engagement. It creates another level of driving engagement and another way to interact with the car and I'm usualy thumbs-up on stuff that creates a more engaged experience.

I'd agree that it's a very well-done, gimmicky feature. Would the car be fine without it? Of course. But when I used it on track, it felt and sounded, just like an ICE car. Helped setup for corners and such since your brain (well, mine) is already conditioned to expect some downshifts with corner braking.

To each their own. I wouldn't say no if someone gave me one, of course - I'm no electric car hater. Just an air of cringe around the 5k lb elephant pretending to be engaging while Nintendo'ing people around the track.

sorry, missed something here - it's 4860lbs w/o driver. Still STOUT, but not 5800lbs bad. I think the article I saw was giving you maximum curb weight or something.

Throttle House has become my new Top Gear, they have the right mix of optimism and humor (and dork-style humor, not bro/Hoonigan humor), I love their take on the car (hopefully our overloads are OK with the link):

My biggest takeaway is the comment, "Hyundai is having fun!"   There's not enough of that in the automotive industry anymore, and there really should be.  There's alot of regulations, and meeting-all-the-rules-for-the-lowest-common-denominator, but not enough "we did this ridiculous thing just because it's fun".   Dodge used to do that with their Hellcat cars, and I wish the OEMs would all do more of it.
