I got an invitation to one to attend at the Autobahn Country Club track in Joliet, Illinois on August 15, 2009.

So I signed up and have a 9:00am time slot.

Has anybody attended one of these? Are these tours lame? Can I really trash a car around the track?

Or am I a passenger on some boring ride around the track? I might stay home.

Any experience here?

I understand you get two laps.. automatics though.. and no, they do not let you drift

I've never heard of it but wish I had. I've had a blast at the lexus performance driving events especially last year with the isf.

I did the one at Fedex field in DC...it was fun! They set up a very short autocross course that you could maneuver through.

Basically, you stand in line until the car comes up that you are interested in driving and then you get your lap. If you want to let the instructor drive, they will show off by either drifting around the course or doing donuts in their little cordoned off area of parking lot.

It was a pretty good time, the first car I drove was the 3.8 Track with the 6-speed...the instructor commented on my Summit Point shirt and we were allowed to drive at a pretty aggressive pace. I didn't drift per se...but I did chuck the rear out a couple times and caught it. Hyundai definitely has a pretty impressive little car on their hands.

After you take turns in several cars, they ask you to fill out a survey and you get your promotional gift stuff.

I'd do it again! :-)

Dang! I wish they had one close by. I'd love to drive the 3.8 GT, 3.8 Track, and 2.0T Track back-to-back, especially in an autocross situation.

I just got back from the Autobahn Country Club in Joliet, Illinois and can say the following:

They let us drive twice - once in the V6 and once in the 4 Turbo. You can go either manual or automatic transmission.

They sent us out on the go cart track which was nothing like the larger track.

My 18 year old son and I had fun but it was a short run. I suggest you go early as we did and the line got long around 9:30am. The free gifts are lame (fake chamois and trunk organizer)

The cars are awesome. I punched the V6 manual model in second gear and screamed around a corner spinning tires and sliding slideways.

I would agree that Hyundai has a cool little car on their hands.
