Why doesn't the Hyundai Gensis get more love? I mean 274bhp out of a 2.0T or 348bhp out of the 3.8 sounds pretty good. The manager here at work has one a loves it.

Mostly because they always compare it to the Mustang and Camaro V6. In that race, the Pony cars can be upgraded to V8's up to 600+ HP while the Hyundai can only be downgraded to a 4CYL.

The BRZFRS will offer a better comparison IMHO, and GRM's.

I didn't like the older ones. They looked homely to me, especially the front end. That said, the mid-cycle refresh they did for 2013 looks a lot better. I'd almost consider a 2.0T model for a sporty daily driver. The last Hyundai we had left a very sour taste in my mouth (2007 Elantra) so there's that.

I'd be much more interested if it had a hatch and a more useable cargo area. It doesn't, I'm not.

They're too heavy for the crowd who wants light & agile cars and not powerful enough for the crowd who wants powerful cars.

To me, it can't decide if it wants to be a budget G35/G37, or a nice boy-racer. It half-asses both of them and falls short of what I want for either.

Shhhhhhhh, keep it on the low so I can snap one up super cheap in a few years.

Next Spring is my new-car time-frame. So far it's 500 Abarth and Cooper S, with an increasing look at this car.

This is definitely the problem I have with it. It's a compromise car for a market that generally likes uncompromising cars.

This. It falls short somewhere. If it had one more thing going for it--a spectacular interior, or 35/40 mpg, or was 1 second faster to 60, or it made women jump at you--it would be a winner. As it is, it is simply "not a bad car".

I would take a new Genesis over a 500 Abarth in a second. Unless you were trying to get like 35+ mpg hwy (which i dont know if abarths do anyway).

I do think the main problem with the genesis is that it's too big. Not too big to be a great car or perform well, just too big to fit into that magical perfect size for a sporty car that things like the FRSBRZ and things like an old Integra occupy.

That' so funny because I liked the original look and hate the refresh. Style is subjective!

Do I even need to weigh in here? I think we already know what sideof the fence I'm on.

One thing: I think the Lambda 3.8 V6 is the best sound V6 on the market.

I agree with you, it is.

I like the new Genesis, both motors.

If i was in the market for something like that, and none of the other options were available on the market, i'd buy one.

I know you're not talking about it, but a close relative who lives in Alabama has a 4 door Genesis 5.0 R-Spec and loves the hell out of it. 429hp! Yes please!

Completely different. The Genesis sedan is a budget Lexus/Benz/BMW, entry level luxury car. That car actually makes a lot of sense.

But that's also why the Cou-pay is so heavy. It's using the same platform. That's probalby why it feels much more refined than it's competition.

Now... if we could just get that 5.0 Tau into the Cou-pay....... I'd risk a divorce for one of those.

I was kind of excited right before they came out, but I've always had a really hard time with the styling. This is coming from a guy who typically likes quirky, oddball, and just plain dorky cars. The proportions are sexy, then they just went overboard on the skin sculpting. It just looks very overwrought in my eyes. Both the old and the new refresh.

That's what did it for me. I couldn't see owning a 3400 lb car.

When they get to the point that 2nd owners start blowing the 2.0 turbo ones, I'll start looking at those for LSX swap candidates.

Those are post-refresh numbers. Prior to that the 2.0T only made ~215hp, and the 3.8L was right around 300. The 2.0T cars didn't handle mods all that well. Buddy had one, he did an CAI/exhaust/tune, and the clutch couldn't hold up. His choice was either upgrade the clutch and likely void the warranty on the tranny/diff (and he had already had to have the tranny worked on once under warranty) or upgrade to the 3.8L. He went with the latter.

I think others have already stated the biggest issue I have with the GenCoupe: it's too damn heavy. If I'm gonna get a car in that weight class, I'll take the Ford.

It just doesn't fit a niche.

Too big/heavy to go up against a miata or frs/brz.

Weight, size, price, and power(small engine/big engine) it was a good alternative to the mustang until 2011 when Ford released the 300 HP V6 and the new 5.0.

This once more.

Plus, lets be honest, the "Hyundai" brand, for some people, still carries the stigma of being a car that you had to settle for financially in the face of preferred options.

Says the guy who has to drive a "Scion"
