... because as of yesterday, I have an officially confirmed pre-order for an MT ND Launch Edition . Let's just hope I fit the car properly and it doesn't turn into another Oops like the Evo did.

I guess some of us will have to buy them new so the rest of the gang can buy one in 15 years time .

I'm really hoping they're as great as everyone says too...because I'd love it if I could grab a NC PRHT for pennies on the dollar sometime next year

I'm waiting until I get behind the wheel - but it's quite possible the 25-year-old daily driver might get replaced.

Congrats!

Might already be happening. A friend locally just got a screaming deal on a black PRHT NC brand new.

I am done adopting first year production vehicles. First it was the NA Miata with the weak crank and 3 years ago the FRS with its list of launch issues.

The good news is that the FRS goes to the scrapyard in 7 more years and I should have a good crop of Miatae to shop from. So here is to hoping that it is what I want it to be (a new NA).

Six-speed white Club was my fallback plan if the LE didn't work out...

Not got to that point yet, sorry.

I just got the confirmation that they actually have an order in for an LE with my name on it. The whole ordering process seems to have caused a lot of confusion so far, yesterday Mazda USA called to confirm, then someone from the dealer selected called to confirm, then someone from the same dealer called again today to check if I wanted to preorder an ND or if I had preordered one. Confidence in the process, I haz it.

At this point in time it's actually a head-to-head race between the ND and a (real) Caterham 7, but I can't get hold of the dealer with the Caterham to see if the pre-sale repairs have now been completed.

I would if I could drive the thing, because I'm not going to buy one without a test drive...

The two I'm looking at (both at the same dealer) are an '84 with a freshly rebuilt engine and some fixable ergonomics issues (it's supposedly a long cockpit, but I'd likely have to retrofit the lowered floors) and a 2001 that fits like a glove but needed some pre-sale repairs because it has mostly been a garage ornament.

The ND is exciting, but not Caterham 7 exciting.

The Caterham is absolutely wild fun for 15 minutes. The ND is a real car

I really need to pull the Seven out for another drive.

I've got confirmation on both of the shop cars. One Ceramic GT 6-speed, a very early production run that's on the same boat as all the Launch Editions. The other is a Ceramic Club 6-speed with no Brembo/BB$ package, it'll follow a few weeks later.

Looking forward to getting by grubby mitts on them.

I'll be getting an ND in a year or two when the PRHT comes out, they add a few more colors (green, yellow etc.) and they address any issues that it may have (or not have) in the first year of production. All in it looks like a home run from Mazda. I will just have to enjoy my NC until then.

They've been asking since September when the car first broke cover.

Your pre-order experience sounds similar to another friend who placed an order for a LE car. Finally received a phone call a couple of days ago.

The Mazda dealer that's supposed to handle the delivery of the pre-ordered LE seems to suffer from confusion again, they're now sending me follow-up emails if I'm still looking for a car. And bombard me with "look at these used cars that we have for sale that having nothing to do with the car you may want" emails.

Right, so I finally got price confirmation - dealer is charging MSRP + destination. No S-Plan pricing for LEs from them, which isn't unexpected.

So for the last piece of the pricing puzzle they need to figure out how much the delivery charge to deliver the car up here would be. That one is necessary for me to get out from having to deal with both CA and NV DMV, plus that way I get to pay NV sales tax.

So far it's looking good, I just hope I can get comfortable in the car otherwise all of this excitement would be for naught.

Still waiting for a confirmation of the delivery charge, tho'...

I've seen the sheet with the delivery charge, I think it's $895 or something along those lines.

We're going to pick up our non-LE on Monday in San Diego, then tow it out to our shop just in time for Summer Camp.

In reply to Keith Tanner:

Oops, wrong term on my end. The delivery charge to get it to the dealer is $820 according to what they told me.

However, once I verify that I be comfortable in the car and we do the paperwork, the plan is that the dealer delivers the car to my house up here. That way I have to pay NV sales tax instead of CA sales tax and more importantly, don't have to deal with the CA DMV shenanigans even after I register it here like I had to with the Evo. NV DMV is much more agreeable, and I can't pick up the car at the dealer in CA myself without having it registered there apparently. However if they deliver they can get a single trip permit.
