I bought this tonight for $70, what to do?

This showed up on the local CL for $100. After chatting for a bit, I got it for $70.

The batteries are stone dead, so it is on the charger now. It is a 24v system, apparently. Overall, it seems in nice shape, it is a 2006 model Jazzy Select!

My first need for it, is some sort of pit transport for Lemons races. Transport for one person is OK, even more is better.

Does anyone know anything about these? How do I make it dangerously fast? I'm OK with bending some roll cage tubing for it, and mounting a spare Sparco seat I have around

If the batteries are stone dead the charger may not charge it. If its anything like 24/36/48v golf carts the chargers wont charge a stone dead battery. You have to put them on a standard trickle charge 12v at a time (assuming you are using an automotive charger) to get them working again.

To get it faster you add voltage, it's pretty simple, but you have to find out what the motor can handle (my guess, not much over 24v) It's unlikely you'll get any real speed out of it without seriously compromising longevity.

I just made a contact for good batteries, controllers and motors taken from used industrial floor scrubbers. All the parts you'd probably need to make it faster, but after all that work you'd be starting with a seriously underwhelming chassis to begin with. I think fasted58 has the right idea, donate it and find a better platform to start with. I looked at a lot of these things when I was planning the hammock build and the bottom line is there's enough cheap golf carts out there which make a much better platform.

That battle 'bot is certainly cool, but I'll cast another vote for the "fix it up and donate it" plan.

ya, donate. There are a lot of needy elders that can't afford those or don't have insurance to pay for them....You can probably write it off for 3x what you paid for it.

I think there are easier and more fun ways to make pit transportation....

Looks like it needs less seat, more reel mower.

The chairs have computers that control the steering and speed. When I used to sell them, most of the ones that went to the elderly were sent to 40-50% max speed to keep them from running over the cat or the staff at their facility.

The proper batteries are deep cycle gel cell's but any set of two 12v will work well enough to see how well it runs.

Normaly the power on switch is also speed select. The power switchs has 3 positions (off) all the way down one mid position (on) and a momentary all the way up (speed select). Speed select rotates thru 3 speeds the bar graph in front of the joy stick normaly shifts. You'll need a computer to set max speed and torque as it is set for the weight of the rider when delivered.
My freind Pete always had to have the guy back to crank the torque as he'd get stuck in the soft clay at the Flat track. You can't just add a battery has it will fry the computer.

Are those AC or DC motors?

Is it two motors with variable speed controlling the steering?

Good lord! How is it that buying something on craigslist suddenly becomes a mandatory charity? His charity contributions are his own business. You all have more than $70 to your name and many many old people could use it. Give your own money away.

How much easier can it get to make pit transportation than to take a working vehicle an add/change a seat?

I dunno exactly what I'd make, but I'd make something. And it would be awesome. Maybe a paddock vehicle. With a cooler. And a stereo. So I could play some Journey and do the Rodney Dangerfield dance from Caddy Shack.

I was thinking, get some basic chairs on some 4 wheel dollies, and you could tow a whole TRAIN of people around the paddock. Those things have the torque.
