What in gods name happened to this seasons IndyCars?
Also, I've never really seen Barber Motorsports Park, it looks like a pretty cool track.

its what happened to them after wheldons accident last year, plus they went to v6 turbos which is nice, but they are butt ugly arent they. still better then that wing/wedge thing.
Yeah the crash last year was not what made these cat abortion cars, they were in the works way before that and Weldon was one of the main "test pilots".
I knew he had something to do with them. Quite an emotional win last week for Helio, it was nice to see him back on top.

Same here. I actually like the look a bit better, although there's a bit of Countach in that rear view that's a bit odd, but this bodywork enables them to rub and bump a little without catapulting through the sky, so I love it. I watched the last race because it actually had passing, too, so I think that car is a step in the right direction.

I actually agree with everything you just said there. I typically prefer fendered cars for that very reason. They can still touch and its not so damn dangerous.

if not for that, they'd still look like they did before..
I don't know if you've seen a Formula 1 car lately, but the 2012 IndyCars are positively gorgeous by comparison.
(Will the DeltaWing actually run in 2013?)

Its running in the LeMans 24-hour and will likely run in ALMS next year if it proves to work as Panoz is really interested in it. I don't like the way it looks, but I love the fact that someone is trying something new again (remember the turbine cars at Indy? F1? How about the 6-wheeled cars or the 4WD Indy/F1 cars?)

Yeah it is cool that the Delta wing is different, but damn is it ugly.
I think the plan for Indycar 2013 is to offer different aero kits. That was the original plan and I think they are still planning on it.
It was cool to see that cars could lean on each other just that little bit without the slightest touch sending both cars into the pits with a broken wing/flat tire and ruining their race.
Overall, the look is growing on me. they look great coming at you
Great from the side
Its really just the bumpers that are still a little weird, but they are there for a good reason and until they find a better solution i'm all for them

I can't find the interview anymore, but the basic idea is that the IRL (spec, really) formula was a failure, the CART formula was too expensive, so they're trying to split the difference. The chassis will be spec, but bodywork is up to the teams. I'm hoping they won't be so ugly once Roger & Chip blow the dust off their wind tunnels. Full disclosure: I think Indycar before the split had it damn near perfect. Big badass cars, star quality drivers, and a long tradition. I really think they'd be as big as NASCAR now (and probably approaching 250mph at Indy by now) if the split hadn't happened. What a berkeleying waste.
At least with turbo motors, they sound like Indycars again. And there were passes in places at Barber that I didn't think you could pass. I wonder how much downforce the things have.
