In all fairness a real acr with an intake and exhaust will run a high 14. If the cams were the real deal it might be faster.
But its likely NOT true, especially of this car
Also in all fairness, a 4dr ACR Single Cam will run a LOW 14 with intake, header, exhaust, a cam, and a full gutting job. It will also be the most fun you've EVER had on 4 wheels.
The car that i'm referring to is in the Reader's Rides, but it's now rocking "Poor Man's SRT4" power. To the tune of almost 400ftlbs of torque last i knew.
I hate this thread.... Off to go look for some ACRs. I love me some 1g Neon.

Funny thing being that when I found this I was just looking athe the prices of Dodge Spirit R/T's, which is around $2400. I knew that this needed to be shared just by where it was being sold from, and the quality of description in the ad.
As for the most fun on 4 wheels, you need to get out more. I knew some twins awhile back that were strippers, that'll make it fun on 4 wheels for ya.

As an owner of a Neon which I absolutely love...
That car just screams "kick me in the crotch, for I am an idiot!"

Why? I've personally never heard a car scream. Does it sound anything like a lobster screaming? Or is it more pronounced then that? Neon's are good cars, but seem to eat headgaskets, not as much as the 2.5 suby motors though, lol..
Andrew
Andrew, Neons haven't been anymore prone to eating HG's than any other aluminum head/cast iron block motor since about 1997 when the factory finally got most of the cars converted to MLS gaskets.
^ True that. And 97 was 13 YEARS AGO, for those not counting....so it's time for that failing headgasket Neon legend to die.

digdug, spirit r/ts are cool as long as you're not looking for neon handling
a spirit r/t will run low 14s with a $10 grainger valve and a $200 exhaust, full interior, a/c, etc, and still get 30 mpg hwy. And it was a spirit r/t motor in a dodge shadow body that trapped 127mph at $2009 and ran a high 10 shortly afterward.
Im actually going to go get my spirit legalized in about 2 hours. I just swapped it from turbo 2.5/auto to turbo 2.2/5spd.. still only 8 valves though. I doubt ill ever get it out of the 14s.

Turbo sound=yummy.
"what else canz i spray paint yellow?"
Vigo, I think that would look better with some neon yellow spray paint :)
I love my wife, I showed her the picture, and said 850$??? she said "300$"

I've got no love for the Neon ACR. SCCA's admission of that car single-handedly ruined Showroom Stock forever. It deserves to be humiliated like this. LeMons is too good for it.
No, the ACR followed the SS rules. It was the SCCA and other manufacturers' complete inability to deal with it that ruined SS. The ACR didn't have a trunk kit - anybody could buy it and drive it as is (plus cage). Honda and other manufacturers couldn't match it so the SCCA had to throw bandaids at the problem instead of telling the other makers to cowboy up and make faster cars.

Don't think this is real, but 2005 Neon ACR for 14,000.00

What years were the ACRs?
There was an ACR version of the SRT-4, so that's real. Well, it COULD be real, you never know with Craigslist.

That might be real. Doesnt have the ACR wheels, though. Its a maybe.
Anyway im planning on repainting my spirit.. but probably in the original TAUPE!!!!!!
The ACR badge is in the wrong place, and it has the wrong wheels. I'm going to call shennanigans.

A Dodge Spirit ES was the first "real" car I ever owned, by that I mean it was the first nice car with payments. Like this but all black:
I really miss that car. For a '90's Dodge product that car was full of win.

That car in black is very rare nowadays.
Of the engines spirits came with..highest numbers hit are:
the tbi 2.5.. ~130whp?
The turbo 2.5... over 500whp
The 3.0 v6... over 500whp.
The dohc turbo 2.2... over 800 whp.
Or you could be a weirdo like me and put something in it it never came with, a 2.2 sohc turbo, and shoot for 220whp baby!!!
Spirits are cool. They are like k-cars because you can bolt anything k-car to them, but they are different because they feel like they are from the 90s, not the 80s :p
You would make my day if you told me that those numbers were accomplished on stock motors with junkyard turbos and minimal engine management modifications.
They probably were.
The EFI on those were pretty good for the time and dirt simple to work with. Info is available to hack the code. MegaSquirt is similar in technology, but obviously easier to make changes.
The SOHC heads are the major stumbling block, but with a grinder and some muscle knowledge you can improve that a bit.
The DOHC lotus stuff can be fragile, but has a ton of potential.
A larger plenum for the SOHC intake helps a lot!
Holset turbo + 2.5L SOHC = WIN!
The later bottom ends are good to 500+hp (for at least a couple of passes) more passes are possible with forged rods and pistons.
MLS headgaskets are a must.
Plenty of fuel is a must for survival.
Seeing this thread turn to Spirits and such, I wonder what could have been done to the (base model)Acclaim I learned to drive in. That thing was HORRID, and it went thru HGs every 2 years/24k like clockwork.
But it was our family's first 90's car, FWIW

Well.. the 3.0 actually was! As long as ebay turbo and rising rate regulator meet the requirements.
If you look up "the junkyard" on streetfire, the car comes up halfway down the page with this vid. This guy is a good friend of mine.
http://www.streetfire.net/video/90-Junkyard-Runs-11s-on_649313.htm
He has a spirit, too. non turbo 3.0, runs high 14s at sea level. It was turbo'd at one point and ran 13.9 on ~5psi before he decided to move his ambitions to rusted out sundance, a.k.a. "The Junkyard".
I consider him a kindred spirit to Sh*tbox Racing (my one-man race team name which was omitted from my info box in this months issue )
