Odd. I am 5'10", and fit, with room to spare, with my helmet on. You are, honestly, the first person I have heard of having an issue with the headroom.
The manufacturers reps said it was a common concern.
Apparently at this stage of the game and the places they show up with the car he's getting more than the normal share of enthusiasts.
