I like the Lincoln idea although the OP wants a kit so nevermind. I might go find a LS in need of some love.

Well, he already has had a CTS-V and wanted something that would be less heavy, etc. Besides, its a little too obvious, isn't?

If you have the mount kit for the older Chevy V8, the LS adapter plates out there should let it bolt in the Jag, more or less.
T-56's aren't especially cheap. Reportedly the 944t transmisssion holds up just fine - I'd be looking long and hard at 944's - it's a very well documented swap. Or RX8's, if there aren't too many hurdles for you. It sounds like the mechanical fabrication on those is the easy bit.
An E36 would be fun, if you can fab the headers yourself - the Vorschlag kit, while of great quality, isn't especially cheap.

I autocrossed with a guy who had one of those. It was a hoot to hear it bully it's way around the track. For some reason it was weirder to hear that noise come from the IS300 than it was from LS-swapped FD that day. Loved that car.

Or Jaguar Specialties offers a kit for the 70-87 XJ6 and 76-96 XJS for the LS1 for $795.
Also for the 98-03 XJ8.
I don't know that it would be considered a mini-CTS-V, but how about an e39 BMW? They can be found with dead motors fairly commonly. In fact, there is a nice black over tan copy sitting at my mechanic's shop that could be had for under $2k.
In fact, here is one for sale (NMNA):

Really like the IS300 idea, the Jag less-so, but it's priced right. I'll look into a 944, that way I can tell everyone I drive a pooor-scha
The Hot Spot has room for 1 more:

1979 BMW 633csi NICE COUPE - $3000 (Kennesaw)
How about a mercedes R107? Someone on the mercedes forum put an Ls? into a 450sl and has been winning races driving it. Guy wanted to use the stock mercedes engine but it died after a couple of races so in went the Ls whatever.
Here is a link to the guy racing it, I don't know where the build thread is. Looks like a handful.

Already V8 powered (and it is a fairly nice one at that) and aside from potential transmission issues tends to just keep on going in ways that Mercedes and BMW's of the late nineties to now just can't it seems.

That's my plan. I've got a LS1/T56, FC subframe and pedestal mounts built for the FC Subframe that will be bolted in. We shall see how long the rear end lasts.
Suspension should be fine and you are probably going to want to upgrade any 30 year old suspension anyhow.

Nope, the SC400 is V8 powered. The SC300 is very similar mechanically to the IS300, including its I6.
