True... but I don't use those types of hose clamps much anymore anyway. I splurge for the better versions that keep the 'worm gear' away from the rubber. First started using them on the classic Volvo (IPD sells them).
I'm curious if anyone has used the "shrink wrap" type hose clamps that I saw in one of the drag race or circle track catalogues.
Seems like a clean looking option, but I'm not sure how effective.

For good, proper, affordable hoseclamps McMaster Carr is the answer.
www.mcmaster.com and search for 5076K13 and click catalog page in the lower left corner for more sizes.
Will bring up several pages of smooth band worm drive clamps. The bands are formed with ridges as the worm drive, not slots. End result is no damage at all to the hose itself. This style is stock on some cars.
McMaster has no minimum order, but some parts like these clamps only come in packs of 5 or 10.

Gates has been selling these for years, under the PowerGrip name (I think). The only challenge is getting heat all around the diameter of the clamp, which is usually difficult once the component is installed in a car. They are constant tension, though, so they should work better than worm gears.

I have that as well. I've never used it on an automotive hose, but I use it just about everything else. From split hammer handles to garden hoses and anything else I wan a tight smooth bind on.
