This morning there was heavy dew. On a whim I hit the rear defrost button on my truck which I've only done a handful of times since I bought it. The rear window cleared, but so did the mirrors! I didn't even know I had heated mirrors! I've had the truck for 6 years and just turned 110k miles. I wonder what other secrets my cars have.......
Wow I'd never heard of heated mirrors before.
What is this magick you speak of? Whats next? Trailer brakes? HAH. Right...
I knew that some of the trucks of my generation had them but I didn't know that mine did. I suspect they came with the package that has the adjustable pedals. I knew about the pedals. They came in the package with the side airbags. Packages are weird.
My wife's 325 has the "winter package" with heated mirrors, washer nozzles and seats. All are fantastic.
Heh, nice. Do the mirrors have a little defrost symbol etched in the glass or anything? IIRC my old 3000gt had them to let you know they were heated.
I never thought rear defrosters could be cool...until now.
Every car I've had for the last 10 years has had heated mirrors. Very nice feature. The Elantra was the first, the Accent, the Grand Vitara, the truck and now both Kia's. Shoot the Rio even has the tinted outside mirrors to help reduce glare.
My wrx has them. Never thought about how I can't see behind me in the morning until I had this car then bought my Miata after which doesn't have them. Of course I'm in Southern California so what I say doesn't matter.
The part I don't like about the heated mirrors is part of the package is windshield wiper de-icer which brings up the price of the windshield that I need to replace..

I see what you did there...
My Disco has both a regular hot air defrost for the windshield and there is a very fine web of wires embedded into the glass for electrical defogging.
I just checked the build sheet and sure enough, right there with the LT1 package for that year are heated mirrors. I also have remote start which I think I knew but I forgot about. I also only paid $25k for the truck brand new 6 and a half years ago which feels like a pretty good deal.
I still think the mirrors are cool. There have been a lot of mornings when I've wiped the dew off so I could see. Never again!
Standard on my '03 Dodge Ram. Separate button for them on the dash.
Yup, my F-250 has them and they're soooooo sweeeeet.
It's the little things.
My 06 P71 was the first car I ever owned that had that.
Now that I'm in the Mazda2, I have to wipe the mirrors off with a microfiber cloth. The horror.
Hell---- My 87 Cressida had heated mirrors. Although they didn't get used much in FL.
My '96 Contour had heated mirrors.
My '13 Fiesta has them too.
Not needed very often, but when you do, nice.
I wish my malibu had heated mirrors. Actually, I wish it had heated seats instead. Those things are so damn nice this time of year.
I changed a set of blades in a newer dodge ram a couple weeks ago and it had heated wipers! It had want looked like a washer hose connected directly to the wiper, but turns out it was an electrical connector. I took the old blades apart and, sure enough, there was a heater grid in the frame of the wiper. That was a new one to me!
I added heated mirrors to my Mazdaspeed3 and I'm seriously considering it for my Mustang. Both cars are wired for them from the factory. My office is located in a foggy area so they're very useful for evaporating condensation in the morning when I go home.
I think my Alfa 164 has heated mirrors (it's been down all winter so I haven't tried them). I know the front windshield actually has defrosters beneath the wiper area to keep them from sticking.
One of my favorite things about the Leaf is that we can turn on all the HVAC/defrost/seat heaters before going out to the car from our phones. We forget a lot, but our standby when out to dinner is to turn on the HVAC when the check comes...
I'm trying not to get too attached to it; I'm too much looking forward to returning to driving cars where the rear defrost is "lean way back with an extended squeegee"... I guess defrost rear windows are available for the 2002 (it was an option on the cars when new), but I don't think they're available new, and the state of the defrost lines on 40 year old used windows is... predictable.
I can tell you you do not want to lower a car up on a lift down onto the heated mirror of a pearl white Cadillac. Very expensive!
I had to replace one of the heated mirrors on my WRX. It got sliced off by the tumbling tailgate that broke away from a Home Depot utility trailer. Losing the mirror was like hitting the jackpot, since I originally thought the tailgate was coming through the windshield. Anyway, I was surprised to discover that a new, color matched, heated mirror was only about $185.
I was expecting a build thread where you added them yourself. Nice discovery though, enjoy!
