i don't need it, but it seemed like a deal. ...
1995 F-250, regular cab & box, 2wd
302 and automatic, 120k miles
A/C works. Fluids look good. Engine sounds good.
A little rust, not terrible. Lots and lots of thick grimy mess on the bottom of the drivetrain.
$1,000

my question to you:
WHAT NOW GRM?!?

that's my initial thought.
just making sure it isn't something i should want.
drop 4/6.

add stereo and comfort, as well as fat tires and good sounding exhaust.

I love my '95 F-150!
use it as the truck it is and don't cry when it gets a few dents and scratches.
Clean up the grimy goo and enjoy cheap, useful truck.
UPDATE:
I changed the tie rod ends and shocks. I bought AC-Delco ones from Rock Auto because, something about that makes me laugh.
I bought some new/cheap 235/85-16 tires. Nexxan, i think? 10 ply korean tires is all i remember.
then i serviced the transmission (E4OD). the filter i removed was date stamped '96, but the fluid was red and the magnet didn't have anything scary attached to it.
i drained and refilled the 10.25" rear end. looked nice inside, pretty clean really.
the engine ran awesome, but was coding for "O2 sensor lean". since the sensor was cheap, i changed it with a new one, and the code went away and stayed away. other than that i changed the oil and added some Lucas stopleak to slow the main seals down a little.
Then i loaned it to my uncle.
He proceeded to pull an enclosed trailer a couple hundred miles before "the oil gauge went to zero all at once. about 15 miles (FIFTEEN MILES?!?!?!)later there was a bang, some rattling, lots of oil, and it stopped."
So is he buying you a replacement engine and installing it for you??
What a bummer all around though. That sucks.

Wow, only 15 minutes after gauge/light.
Is your Uncle mad at you for inconveniencing him?
Find a '95 F150 with more rust and a bad trans. Swap engine and scrap the hulk for cheap improvement.
a 250 is a fine platform for a 6BT swap. It's fairly common

+1 for a prerunner build!
think i'll just round up another 5.0 and throw it in there.
this is the same uncle that gave me his nissan hardbody after it stopped on the highway (trans failure AND dead battery).
i ain't mad. i knew in advance that if i loaned him something it would have to fend for itself. just didn't see this one coming.
I would suggest a JY Exploder 5.0 . . .
that'd be good. are my options for a donor pretty open?
i have a friend who derby's cars, and has some Town Car drivetrains laying around too.
I think the Town Cars and Crown vics had the Lo-Po 5.0
- Lincoln Mark VII 86 (LSC)-92
- Mustang GT 88-95
- Exploder 95-01
- Mountaineer 97-01
Nets you 200-225hp and 280-300tqs
those explorer/mountaineer engines with the GT40p heads don't bring more than $400 around here, according to car-partdotcom. with warranty, and supposedly under 100k miles. that's compelling.
I would be annoyed. Has he stepped up to the plate and tried to make things rite?
There are at least 4 5.0 explorer motors in the local P&P that are just sitting there because they have another 2-3 on the shelf. They will let them go cheep. I am thinking about one for my 94 mustang.
my grandfather passed away. my uncle was on the way out there to pick up his stuff. this basically guarantees i get the 1966 Honda CT90 i had my eye on.
