So we went back to the dealer today to get them to check out my wife's Neon to see what they would give us for it. Then they really started pushing deal. We only got 8k and some change for both cars, bring the price down to mid 13's. Told em that wasn't good enough. Came back with 12k flat. 0% interest for 48 months. Free cruise control upgrade (the car we liked didn't have it). $400 cash back. Seemed like too good a deal to pass up (mostly the no interest thing). So we said yes. Also put some cash down so our monthly payments are only $200. Not bad for a brand new car, 100,000 mile/7 year warranty!

I'm a little sad. I really loved my Golf. It was a great, solid, reliable car. I had planned on keeping it for a really long time. But, things change. I get to take both cars in tomorrow, and drive away in our first ever brand new car! I know we're gonna lose money on it, but it's absolutely perfect for what we need. Now to fix that damn Miata!

Which one did you get? AWD? Stick? CVT?

Select AWD, CVT sadly :(. The wife refuses to drive a manual.

Am I the only one that thought THIS SX4?

I was about to be jealous.

Otherwise, congratulations with your purchase. The SX4s (Suzuki and AMC) are nifty cars.

Suzuki SX4 Sedan:

Suzuki SX4 Sportback:

Suzuki SX4 Crossover: The first two are available only in FWD. The last one is available either in FWD or AWD. It's the cheapest AWD car on the market. They're neat little runabouts. Not up to Honda quality, but they aren't complete penalty boxes, either.

Major congrats, Drew!

Keeping the wife happy with a new car AND still having a Miata deserves a big thumbs-up.

I'm so glad my wife drives a manual. Those are cool cars. Congrats! I hope you like it.

Ditto on the wife driving stick.

I would be a sad panda if we got the Forester XT with an auto. In fact I likely would have refused and got something cheaper. Since her old car is Per's new project car she does not only drive stick. She prefer's it.

I really liked the AWD stick SX4 I drove. Reminded me of a taller first gen Impreza. Not fast but peppy. Fun to drive.

I'm entertained by calling crappy cars "penalty boxes." I'm going to use that.

Ive seen some pretty good feedback from the public on the SX4, so I would be inclined to say well done. Pretty much any brand new car w/monthly payments less than 3 bills is a good idea, so even with a noticeable lack of pedals, thats a nice overall score in my book. be sure to let us know what you think in a few months and so on. I see a future for these akin to metro/swifts - few, but devoted followers.

Me too.

Never knew about the new one, but it looks like a good car ('specially the reddish one).

Thanks guys. I was totally fishing for some attaboys here, because I got hit with a major 'holy E36 M3 what was I thinking?!' this morning.

Despite not being a manual, it has a manumatic feature, which apparently will hold the gear until change (only the drive selector, no paddles). It's not a proper manual, but it could still be a little fun. It is a very peppy little car, even my wife said how it just seemed happy and eager.

Sadly I couldn't pick it up today due to some issues. The dealer had a Cruise control for an 07-09. And the '10 isn't out yet. So I get an IOU from them, and when it comes out (should be next month) they'll put it on. Already promised us a rental too! So I should go pick it up tomorrow.

i've only ever seen the crossover thingy, which might explain why i got flamed so badly for dogging it's looks, the other two models aren't bad looking.

Theres not much difference between the crossover and the sportback visually.. monochrome, no roof rack, and different wheels.. woopee.

I like them all. But i do recall seeing a vid and review of a turboed awd one from some mag that said the AWD system was pretty primitive and it would still spin the front tires. Wish i could remember more..

Turns out the dealership right down the road here built a turbo awd one..

14.97@87... thats an AWD e.t. right there. Realistically, most cars trapping 87 et in the 16s unless they have a good run. So, i guess you could call it a 14 second car but dont go around betting any money on races or you'll be losing a lot of money to people with 16 second cars

Not that im against it.. it'd be fun to drive, especially at lower speeds. And there's plenty of room for improvement.
