You must have been doing it wrong.

You kind of have to be interested in how it works to not say it is boring.

If you have not noticed, people who aren't interested in how cars work (gas, electric, whatever) generally think most cars are boring.. even the ones enthusiasts think are friggin great.

So if you weren't already interested in electric vehicles, i am not surprised.

Ok I am teasing a bit. The company I work for a shuttle service to get you around to different buildings. In the fleet they have two Jukes. I talked to the driver about their experiences and she said that the range is so bad that they have to plug them in for three hours mid day. As for the ride itself it felt like a Prius.

Am a fan of electric cars.....yes and no. You are just shifting the power demands for one type to an other.

Jukes aren't electric though... perhaps it was a Leaf?

Do you mean the Nissan Leaf?

I figure there will soon be a great business opportunity for people to sell MP3 players that pickup the vehicle's rpm, speed, and cornering G's wirelessly and make nice loud "vroom, vroom" and tire squealing noises.

Kind of like we did in the sand boxes with our Tonka trucks when we were kids.

Sorry. Yes I was wrong. It was a Leaf. I hate posting on my phone.

Oh, the catfish car!

The front end looks like a big ol' Mississippi catfish to me - and then being electric too really makes it undesirable.

Hey now, we all know electric cars are powered by wind turbines. Wind supplied by politicians hot air...

Or is it a nuke powered model?

Hey, I've ridden in some pretty fun electric cars... of course, they were 20hp electric go-karts at my indoor track.

Sounds like riding in 90% of the cars made in the last 20 years.

Could be coal, could be gas, could be nukes, could be hydro, could be wind.

I rented one while my wife's car latest fender-bender was being addressed. The leaf is a boring car with an exciting motor and lousy range. If you replaced the electric motor with a standard-issue 1.6 liter motor, I'd expect to pay about $18,000 for it. In fact, if it sold for $18k with the electric motor, I'd seriously consider one because 95 percent of my familys mobility is within 20 miles of home. But the idea of paying an extra $12 to $17k for an electric motor upgrade just doesn't make sense. If the Volt was $30K I'd also seriously consider one, because it has the added range and nicer accoutrements.

Still a (small) niche player.

HEY LOOK A COAL POWERED CAR!

Solution = Bitch at things NOT including electricity producers, on a car forum?

Actually if you take the solution assumption out and instead assume that you do not actually desire a solution.. then it works.

The volt starts at 41k, there's a 7.5k fed rebate, a 1.5k cali rebate, several offers in your state for free 220v chargers with installation, and they now qualify for HOV lane access. Maybe its time to seriously consider.

80% of Americas electricity is coal fired. Here in NYC it would be a Remote-Diesel powered car.

Yes the coal is home sourced, but I thought the point of these was the greenieness?

A modern gasoline engine is way more green, and supply would be less of a problem if we'd push a viable green energy, like nuclear.
